"We walked and wept and wondered who would save us Was it you or me who talked of being dangerous When we walked with wondrous woe of being famous Was it you or me who spoke of being saviors" I love this part of the song and the lyrics Jerry sings at the same time. Is it just me or does this cd have a noticeable modest mouse influence to it? This line makes me think of MM "Two tickets out to sea" and the feel of the cd very tom waits like with some modest mouse, but clearly it's still trophy scars distinct style. Love it. |

Fragments of my wrist watch Keeping time away from you Is the only time worth telling So I can ask my youth: "What did you do?" Well if I had to guess... He is obviously talking with someone he hasn't talked to in a while and he is trying to keep her there(Keeping time away from you), keep her talking about the the past (Is the only time worth telling So I can ask my youth). |

I think I really get this song. It sounds like its a guy thats haunted by a recent break up or even the memories of a past relationship and he is desperate for anything to help him forget and move on. He brings up some memories, the best memories that make him feel the worse, the reasons he can't sleep at night. I think he has been in and out of the botanica shop a couple times because the last verse sounds like he is talkin to the person at the botanica and they give him some spell books and what not for his "head's little problems". The guy at the shop is saying "I hope they let you sleep, So I can get some sleep" "The spell books and candles The potions in bottles You spoke yourself ill Despite what's in common With your rational behavior Sarcastic tone and nature" These lines make the guy searching for spells realize how desperate he really is because he is going against his rationality hoping that the magic and potions will help him. "I wonder how I Get so tired When I set my Bed on fire " This im not TOO sure about but i think lighting his bed on fire (maybe part of a ritual/ spell). you could say that this is him letting go of even the bed him and his girl slept. After he lets go of that, it helped him a lot and finally feels tired enough to get some sleep. JUST MY THOUGHTS THOUGH, ANY OTHER TAKES ON THIS SONG. |
