Wow, I completely disagree. I suppose it's where I'm coming from versus where you're coming from, but I see this song as a spiritual test of faith in its entirety. He lost someone, and he blames God. He waits by the phone for a message or call from God, not having faith that God was there for him. In the chorus, he says "you found me lying on the floor surrounded" which I think means surrounded by the Holy Spirit and the Love of God tat had been there all along. I believe he was lying on the ground because he had a nervous breakdown which is often times the point where people begin to believe in God, whether again or for the first time. I mean, again, it's just my opinion, but I love that you have an opinion. Can I ask you something? Have you been disappointed by God? Because that could be your frame of reference that you're tapping into to interpret the song. |

Wow, you're right. No "hidden meaning" about God. It's blatantly obvious. Look again at the first 3 words of the song. |

| I think the speaker in the song had been waiting by the phone for years for a call that had never come. This is when he was talking to God about not being there for him when they first started talking. It's that complex that people have when they test their fate and they say "God, send me a sign" or something to that effect, but if they speaker had just had faith in God all along, he wouldn't have needed a sign (that call) to reinforce his belief because all along, he was surrounded by God. | |
| Angels and Airwaves – Secret Crowds Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
It sounds very praise-like to me. I guess 'to each his own', but "Let me feel You, carry You higher, watch Your Word spread hope like fire, secret crowds rise up and gather, hear Your voices sing back louder" sounds a lot like worship, and getting back to the way things should be (secret crowds) rather than the regular form of church. "If I had my own world, I'd build You an empire, from here to the far land, to spread love like violence" Totally talking about building an empire for God! |

| The Smiths – Meat Is Murder Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Just for the record, I'm not a vegetarian, though I have been, actually for a year and a half. I stopped for health reasons; I was too young to take on a veg. diet all on my own. To this day, I still will not eat beef, just lean meat. To all the people who say "Killing plants seems as unethical as killing animals," Fuck you. That's probably the stupidest thing you could ever say. Ever. Which is what makes you seem like a "dumb meat-eating motherfucker," I suppose. To all the people who pull the "OMG, we're omnivores, so we don't HAVE to eat meat," Fuck you, too. As omnivores, we humans are not adapted to eat either plants or animals exclusively because it would mess up our digestion. Some omnivores can eat a near-exclusive plant diet or the other way around, eating a near-exclusive meat diet. I'm sure that sentence didn't make sense, but stay with me. Either way, we need the nutrients both plants and animals provide. For plants, it's vitamins, mostly, though i couldn't find exactly which, and for animals, it's mostly protein and iron, that kind of stuff. There are reasons that some people aren't vegetarians, health reasons specifically, and to tell them that they're murderers is wrong. (Technically, murder/homicide is the act of killing another HUMAN, not animals.) Just be more open minded. I'm not saying there aren't more humane ways of dealing with the task of slaughtering animals, and while killing an animal sucks in any way (NOTE: I hit a squirrel the other day, first time ever to produce road kill; I cried for probably 3 hours afterwards), sometimes it's necessary for survival. Becoming a veg. is a lifestyle choice and you can't force other people to choose the same as you. On that note, I would like to say I hope to become a vegetarian again in the future, though I'm not sure when. Good luck to all of you, either way. |

| Charlotte Martin – The Dance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think overall this song is about the hardships and disappointments of life, mostly lost love, though, and how life is like a dance. People telling you not to rock the boat, relationships and how they don't work out, having kids born into a corrupt society, wanting to be with Mr. Right (someone not there) and how that could be a complete disaster, trying to stay friends after a breakup, and the anger at a former lover you can feel when you're finally over then, and finally, shared custody of a kid (you get your time and the other half's mine). | |
