| i think it's from the perspective of someone falling out of love with a partner and consciously trying to establish a distance. throughout the song he talks about growing to hate and resent someone, and he's trying to hate her, but it will always be a struggle to turn himself against the person who made him who he is. | |

i heard this song the other day and i think its AWESOME >) i wasnt sure what the meaning was but i think i have an idea now.. some guy who had lived a tough life chose to escape it by t he only means possible, which is obviously suicide. "Here we are, far beyond the distant sky Seen all the world and how the story will be over Through the snow and tainted mountains we have climbed Now we have found the light that guides us over Through the falling rain we travelled far and wide And through the blackest darkness, stars above shining bright" This is about him now, no longer in human form, looking at the world he once lived in. He talks about the light and the bright stars, possibly the escape route that was so tempting to him. "Through the sun and winter rain will fall All our lives we all were waiting for a sign to call We're walking hand in hand in dreams of endless times How do we know when we will leave this life behind" This means that his entire life was filled with misery and hardship, that he had been waiting for a chance to leave the suffering all behind. "Stare at life through eyes of mine The hate, the fear and the pain There's a feeling held deep inside When life you live is in vain" Describing his bitterness at the world, that his life was full of suffering. "Once again we walk this lonely road There are times when we were wading through the rain and cold We're lost in memories of what we left behind Relive the dreams, the endless screams of pain inside Lives are filled with emptiness The fear returns once again Searching endlessly, now we will see Drown your mind in the pain" While looking at the world again, he recollects his previous life, and he silently relives the hardships he thought he had abandoned. "Fly away down the lonely roads of yesterday We close our eyes to see the lights of latter days And all alone we'll be where time can never heal With the trail of broken hearts flying free" The chorus refers to his exploration of the world once again, and the memories he experiences. "fly away" already implies he is no longer in human form. he once again recollects his previous life; the trail of broken hearts referring to all the times he suffered and struggled on, now set free as he has already managed to escape his miserable existence. "The last temptation will be all that's left for me When I see those tears you cried When I hear those lies you lied When I feel all creation now falling down on me Is this the reason to be?" The last part is a little strange; it suggests at a betrayal of some sort, possibly by his lifelong partner (the entire song contains more "we"s than "i"s) it is possibly the final setback he encountered, as after enduring the hardships the betrayal makes him feel the entire world is against him, the temptation to kill himself is the only option left, and he knows there is no longer a reason to live. This is my interpretation, however, there are definitely many more variations. Whatever the case, the lyrics contain a lot of feeling in them, and it really touched me. |
