The Offspring – Fix You Lyrics 17 years ago
Hmm...from the looks of it, as well as hearing it, it seems like this is a relationship that's falling apart.

The girl's not who she used to be, since she's fallen from grace, hence: The "Broken Wing" and the "Empty Glass" which could have contained liquor at one point.

She points out how "We'd all like to re-arrange" leading the listener to believe that their relationship isn't picture perfect.

The guy notices the changes in her, and tries to "fix" her - Put her back the way she used to be, or "How (he) wants (her)".

He's hurting inside because he can't figure out what's wrong or how to fix what problems they have in their relationship.

He notices that she sees something romantic like the stars as nothing more than "Holes in the sky". And the fact that God's tears are for her, is because she can't see the sentimental value in them, as well as her boyfriend/fiancee/etc.

I'm assuming the reason "(He's) in her rain" is because he feels like he doesn't mean much more than a passing rainstorm.

In the end though, he remembers that even though they'd like to re-arrange, there's not much he can do.

In any case, as I've posted along with my other comments, this is just my opinion. I don't expect you to take me seriously, but I'd like it if you didn't flame me for saying what I've interpreted the song to be. If I offended you in someway, I give you my apologies in advance.

The Offspring – Hammerhead Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't know, this song seems mostly about the "War" in Iraq, mostly because of the first two verses.

The first verse is all about how he's a soldier, trying to reassure himself that what he's doing is risky, but will in fact keep the people of his home from harm.

The pre-chorus is in the heat of the moment - He's got his gun locked and loaded, and has to bust through a door and eliminate any possible enemies that are on the other side.

The chorus is his though process as he's going through the building: "Am I doing the right thing?" "Even if we do kill the enemies here, how many people will that guarantee life to?" etc.

The second verse gives him a better clarity of his convictions, he believes he's doing the right thing for his country.

However, again in the chorus, he doesn't "know" if he's doing the right thing.

All in all, he's contemplating when his struggles will end, because this controversy constantly "hammers in (his) head".

Finally, he decides to put his faith in God. The first part of the last stanza is actually a prayer recited by Catholics :

Yea though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for Thou art with me.

In any case, he decides to go on and shoot whoever is beyond the door. Because even though he doesn't know if he's doing the right thing or not: He does know that he was ordered to kill them.

He hopes that he will then find the truth once he does what he's told.

That's just my interpretation, so don't flame me if you believe differently. I don't expect any of you to take me seriously.

The Offspring – You're Gonna Go Far, Kid Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't know with everything that's been typed out here so far, but here's my interpretation of the song:

There's apparently a conspirator who's using someone as a scapegoat to pass the chaos and aggression onto.

In layman terms: The kid's placing the blame on someone else to make up for his/her mistakes.

He makes himself look like some kind of Jesus because he never does anything wrong. Little known to his followers, he's not interested in what they want - Only what he wishes.

The fact that the kid's gonna go far, meant that using others to place the blame on will only work for so long.

Since the kid can no longer get what he wants, it's because someone knows what he's been up to, and now all of the negative attention will be drawn back to the kid.

In the end though, his followers will always side with him, so the fucker (The Kid) can dance and celebrate all he wants, because our narrator "Never had a chance" to expose him for who he really is.

Other than that though, I can see where other people got their interpretations from. Please don't flame me, I'm just saying what I thought he said.

The Offspring – Kristy, Are You Doing OK? Lyrics 17 years ago
Kudos to c_goods and pTn for pointing out the details I looked over when I heard this song for the first time.

In my opinion, I thought this song was about how a young girl was betrayed by someone she really cared about, and that the only way she could ever bury it was by crying, i.e. The "Clouds/Waves of time".

However, because she can never let it go, she has to go on and on in that cycle because "For (her) it never ends".

The innocence she once had was shattered, and she wanted to believe once again that people would never commit atrocities to one another.

Looking at the second verse now, I can understand that she was taken advantage of, etc.

In any case, this song reminds me so much of my only friend, as she had faced a similar tragedy, so I'm somber and nostalgic when I hear it...

Clearly one of the best of The Offspring's songs to date...
