It's about Paul McCartney. From Playboy Magazine 1985, Paul McCartney interview. "It was a weird time. The people who were managing us were whispering in our ears and trying to turn us against each other, and in the end, I think John had some tough breaks. He used to say, 'Everyone is on the McCartney bandwagon.' He wrote 'I'm Just a Jealous Guy,' and he said that the song was about me." |

Rufus Wainwrights version is without a doubt the best, not including the original (the original is just so chilling, so big with the music and choir) Am I the only one who dislikes Jeff Buckley? Yes. It seems that's the only thing he's famous for, but that's me. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever. :) |

Yeah, I agree that Rufus Wainwright does the most emotional version of it, but he doesn't go too... over the top. All of the 'I'm Your Man' songs (the one by various artists... Nick Cave, Martha Wainwright, etc) are just amazing. The best part of this song is the 'I need you/I don't need you' That is so beautiful. Scratch 'one of' the greatest lyricists, try 'the best'. He is AMAZING. |

To me, whenever you see a tombstone, you always think 'what was their story'? You know? Like now I am thinking about Sylvia Plath. If you saw her tombstone now and didn't know who she was at all, you'd not know her real story. You'd just pull straws, wonder, maybe create a tale in your head? From what I gather from the song, it's like they're narrating the life of a name they found on a tombstone. Eleanor's story. If she was a real person, she would have had a completely different story altogether. It's very whimsical. |

Whoa, I just got it! At first I thought it was about drugs. I never did get the sex ref. What I think, is that it's in 2 parts. First part is a woman finding out her husband is being unfaithful and treating her like a fool (She's not a girl that misses much / Lying with his eyes while his hands are busy working overtime) Then when the rock kicks in, it's about her feeling so horrible and hopeless and taking her life so she can just escape it and be happy. I need a fix 'cause I'm going down. ... I know no one can do me no harm Because happiness is a warm gun Yes it is Also ties in to Max from Across the Universe. He's in the hospital after being in such a horrid place as Vietnam, so he's feeling pretty hopeless. You know? |

I love this song, it's the best on Insomniatic. I think it's about a girl who loves her best friend but he's leaving and they only just now told each other their feelings. She's saying 'we don't need to speak, just come be with me before you go. Silence is everything.' Eg: more than words. I think this is the perfect song to describe Phil of the Future as lame as that sounds. "I'll bet two years, I'll bet one year, I'll bet those years you won't be here," and "if only time could disappear." I love this song, especially the Irish theme. |
