I think the speaker is telling about a girl that he met at like a club or party or something, something with dancing and lots of people. The setting that he met her at some kind of party can be confirmed by the line "the way you move aint fair you know" which, in my opinion, suggests he's "jealous" of how great of a dancer she is, but really he's just fascinated. Several bits of the song describe that night. He feels that he made a real true connection with this girl that night. The line "I don't want to miss a single thing you do tonight" suggests that he is constantly reliving the memories from that night. The lyrics also describe how he dreams about her. And the first line "your lipstick stains, on the front lobe of my left side brains" (although my friend says it means he was kissing his ear) i think it means taht he can't possibly forget her. To sum it all up, he met a girl at a party, he feels like they made a real true connection and he is totally infatuated with everything about her and dreams of seeing her or can't wait till he sees her again. |

| I think the speaker is in denial. He is remembering good times he had with a girl that he loves very much, but feels that his relationship with her is falling apart and he is trying to convince himself that its not over. The following phrases in the lyrics "but I know that you can't be mine, by the way you've always been" and "mabye we were vicitims of all the foolish plans" suggest that deep down he knows that it really is "good-bye". "Maybe we were victims of all the foolish plans" also suggests that they ignored problems they had in their relationship and just passed them off as "just where love goes" and that "as long as we've got time" they can fix these problems. But really if they stayed together, they would be spending more time fixing their problems then enjoying eachother because "words aren't warm enough to keep away the cold". | |

This song also reminds me of Juliet's monolague in Romeo and Juliet, Act IV Scene III. She lays in bed considering all the things that could go wrong with the Friar's plan. She finally decides to drink the sleeping potion that makes her appear dead to her family. According to the plan she is supposed to wake up in Romeo's arms and elope with him and live happily ever after, but everyone knows how it really ends (they both die). I don't see why she couldn't just jump out the window and run off into the night, and leave behind one of her dresses covered in fake blood, but that is just my opinion. |

I think it's about a couple chosing whether or not to elope. The first verse (Trying not to lose my head but I have never been this scared before Tell you what I?ll do instead, lay my body down on the floor To forget what I?ve done, silhouette til the good lord come) is just, kind of a little introduction, the speaker is thinking about how he has disobeyed his parents wishes to not "be with" this person. The Chorus ( All we know is distance We?re close and then we run Kiss away the difference I know you hate this one) is about the basis of their relationship, how they have no real time together, the always must be together in secret. The second verse (you?re scared scared to see Your mother there in the door, you wonder where did the years go) is about how the speaker does not want to lose his family for the one he loves, someone who may or may not always be there for him, like when things don't work out and he has to return home after years of no contact. The rest of the song is just about how from this moment on their relationship may be ending because they can longer go against their parents without serious action and commitment (this is where the story ends) or it may be the beginning of their long and happy marriage when they elope (or have we just begun) but like xkristinaa said, its just about bridging a gap in any relationship, not matter what kind of gap that may be. |

Like the guy is ready to sacrifice for her, and he is just waiting for her to "say when" they can be together and she is ready to sacrfice, and the "god on both sides" thing might be, maybe it doesn't have to be that way, maybe neither of them have to sacrfice anything... IDK...its a start. |

Okay... i don't really have much to say except... In the song "Forever Young" (which has a completely different meaning than this song) the singer says " The music's for the sad man(when he plays no one speaks)....The music's played by the mad man(he needs a quiet room, with a lock to keep him in)." I think that lyric and this song are kind of related. Just a thought. |

Usually I blabber about my intrepretation of the song, but this one has me a bit stumped. I think dyc6ko pretty much nailed it on the head. Coldplay has really changed, I bought Viva La Vida expecting stuff like Clocks and Speed of Sound, but instead recieved Violet Hill. I was utterly dissapointed at first, but this music has really grown on me. I love it! I think what dyc6ko said was an excellent viewpoint, but it could also mean self-destruction rather then destruction of the world and the destruction of himself is tearing his love with someone apart. I am a sucker for life songs so maybe dyc6ko is right and I am just trying to spin it into a song about love to make it appeal more to me. |

I'm kind of getting this picture in my head of an old man looking back at his life. It seemed as if his life was filled with him waiting and waiting for something to happen. As he looks back he regrets never making these things happen and he wonders what he "could have been" if he had really LIVED! It could also just be purely a song against everythign happening in the US the past decade. A mother has a son, when he grows up he is ripped from her, he is reported missing in action and she looks back at all the pictures wondering what he "could have been" if that hadn't happened. I guess from both of those ideas comes one big idea that all in all its a song about regret. |

I think this song is very heartfelt and the artist put a lot of thought into it. I guess I can't really relate to it, so it doesn't really "speak" to me. Anyhoo... I think its about this man, and think someone he really loved died. It could be a mom, or a sister, most likely a wife or girlfriend. He can't really let go of her, and I think maybe she died from a horrible disease, like cancer, and he feels that even though she is dead, her angel still feels the pain and he just wants to life that pain. The angel wants him to know that everything is okay and that she is still watching over him and wants him to stop hurting. Its a bit far fetched, but thats my interpretion as close as I can get it into words. |

The line "Stranger then your sympathy" I think it kind of means, you feel sorry for youself, but what is really weird about this time in your life isn't the sympathy you feel for yourself, its this feeling of "joy" (not a good word, thus the quotations, i mean something other then joy, like a cross between joy and contentment and deep sadness. uh... that makes no sense.) that you reached this point giving you the opporotunity to take control over your life again and to fix it and figure out what you really want, not what you thought you wanted. | There are a lot of comments out there about the corny-ness of this song. Sure its corny, but you can't appreciate the non-corny stuff without the corny stuff, and occasionally a corny song like Accidently in Love will come out and turn into a sensation of enjoyment everytime you hear the beginning. The lyrics are trite yet fresh and genious at the same time. Its the typical love song twisted and spun just enough to be unique without being over-done. | |

| I think this song is about making mistakes in your life, and then learning to forgive yourself and also about that with joy comes pain. I think what Pettyfreak said is kind of interesting, and that may be the original intent from Tom Petty, but maybe the song kind of unintentionally devoloped into a song about life. I think he is trying to hook up with some girl and she says she already has a boyfriend, and he thinks that she has a loser boyfriend. "Breaking my back just to know your name...you had a boyfriend, that look like a girlfriend I had...." I think basically he is saying "I tried so hard just to ask you out, only to find out you had a loser for a boyfriend." I don't think this has anything to do with gay people or gender confusion, he's just making fun of her boyfriend because he can't have her. |

| The first lyrics say "You wait, wanting this world to let you in" then the chorus says "let love in" so I guess part of the song is that for others to be open to you is for you to be open to them. Then also in the first verse he says, "Everything they ignore is all that I need" so he is telling to show the world all the good things about her. I guess the main story if the song is that all your problems will end if you just open up and just go out there! I think there is a little bit more to that song then just that, but I think that's just the main point. | |

| I can really relate to this song because I really messed things up with my boyfriend. It only took me 30 seconds to realize I had done wrong, but it took me 4 months to get the courage to apologize. He shouldn't trust me, because I am just going to break his heart again, but he does, and it makes me feel so...well this song describes perfectly how I feel. There is nothing I want to do more then be good to him, and never hurt him again. | |
