The misogyny charge has some merit, and it's weird because this is the best Glassjaw record but lyrically it's reprehensible in places, completely bitter... and I guess that's the energy that you hear on the first LP. Head Automatica of course came later, as well as 'Worship & Tribute'. Interestingly Daryl lost his virginity after '...Silence' was recorded! (I'm not making up bollocks, he mentioned it in two seperate Kerrang! interviews.) Everything after that was much more mellow! Great song, and not quite as sketchy as some of the lyrics later on in the CD. ("You fucking whore", "who are you fucking now?", etc.) |

A lot of you have very weird ideas about what this song means. Rape?! Why does everyone on this site think every song is about rape? Or molestation making people better at sex??! This is fairly obviously about feeling jealous and smothering someone with it to the point where the relationship/friendship falls apart. The sample alludes to the idea that people are made into insecure lovers because of the way they're brought up and underlines the horrible inevitability of the situation. |

| I forgot to say, I love the way the intro to the song always makes you think the guitars are going to come in a note or two lower. Tense! | |

mrdevilophonic - interesting comparison! Though don't think this album was quite as ignored as 'Trendkill' (my fave Pantera LP btw), probably because it came right after their "blockbuster" album. It makes me sad that this album was held in such low esteem, because SNW seemed like a bit of a backpedal to me. Hopefully the new one will see them back on track. I don't doubt that Chino was well aware of the implications of the line "I wish she'd come," but I really think the "wait/burn" lines are more to do with not making a move or taking charge of a situation and watching it pass you by. |

| Obvious references aside, I think there's a subtext regarding the destiny of mankind and the world concluding peacefully. | |

I like Maynard in Deftones better than Tool! The riff really reminds me of 'Birthmark'. Anyway. Does anyone else think of the film 'Crash' when they hear this song? I didn't like the film to be honest, it was a bit tasteless and shocking for its own sake. But I always get images from that movie in my head... I think the song's obviously about edgy sex in a swish car. |
