Mumford & Sons – Thistle & Weeds Lyrics 14 years ago
You are right on. It's refreshing to know there are more of us. You are absolutely correct. I'm guessing you are also a Bob Dylan fan? I am. His songs are loaded with Biblical references. I had never heard of this band until I watched the grammys, only to see Bob Dylan, and I think I'm really going to like these guys.

The Rolling Stones – Sympathy for the Devil Lyrics 15 years ago
Jesus didn't have doubt....he said "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me" because that was exactly what was written by David in the book of Psalms...he was quoting that Psalm to let us know that the prophecy was being fulfilled.

he has a way of making sure prophecy is always fulfilled EXACTLY the way it is written....ever read the end of the book?

lucifer made damn sure Pilate carried out the prophecy concerning the crucifiction of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ written years before in the old testament....and in the process sealed his OWN FATE. Way to go lucifer...chalk one up for the ding-dong...now make sure the rest is carried out. Make it happen. I think lucifer can take over, dont you?

Bob Dylan – Summer Days Lyrics 15 years ago
"Got my hammer ringin', pretty baby, but the nails ain't goin down"

I think this means (and I could be wrong)

either

1) Working hard but seeming to accomplish little or nothing
OR
2) Trying to get a message accross but It's not sinking in

I personally think there is a certain "theme" to Bob's music especially is live set lists. A message he is trying to get across. I think the message is of a Biblical nature.

Bob Dylan – High Water (For Charley Patton) Lyrics 15 years ago
Bob uses a lot of METAPHORS...in literature things like a "flood" or a "twister" or "winds" "driving rain" "hail" "storms" have meanings other than the literal.

Bob Dylan – High Water (For Charley Patton) Lyrics 15 years ago
It's not about a literal "flood of h20"...again, not literal. It's a flood of problems, trouble, deceit, theft, schemes, scams, disease, pestilence, economic failure, pandemonium, chaos, confusion, tyranny, lies, injustice, EVIL and the plundering of society (just to name a few things)....its about the "HERE and NOW". It's similar to the "flood" spoken of in the book of Revelations (not Noah's flood). And yes, "ITS BAD OUT THERE". It's a DELUGE of water. Just like the song the Levee's gonna break has nothing to do with literal water. That is about problems. If it keeps on "rainin'", the Levee's gonna break. In other words if we keep getting bombarded with problems more and more...something has to give.
IF YOU GO DOWN IN THE FLOOD ITS GONNA BE YOUR FAULT

Bob Dylan is a literary genius and at the same time it's so simple a child could understand it.

John Lennon – Imagine Lyrics 15 years ago
THANK YOU!! I've read about 20 comments so far and you are the only one that is AWAKE to the truth. John Lennon was their man. The agenda is for "one world", "one government", to do away with Christianity and the Bible. "A brother hood of man"?? sounds so nice doesnt it.....Imagine all the people sharing all the world?? Hope someday you will join us??? No countries too??? (no borders) Imagine all the people living life in peace?? who comes in the name of "peace"?? I know who. Bob Dylan has the lyrics that go something like (a great humanitarian, a great philanthropist...sometimes SATAN come as a man of peace)

Natalie Imbruglia – Torn Lyrics 17 years ago
I think she feels betrayed by God. She may feel he didn't come through when she needed him the most. The "illusion" she had never manifested into reality. Ya know, it seems like its a song about a man she fell in love with, but some of the words seem to imply much more than that. She thought she saw the "holy light" but now she is having doubt. After all, she does say she is "all out of faith". She says " there is just so many things that i can't touch", to me she wants to believe but she can't figure it all out, and at the time it seems like God is absent and of no help. "Nothings right, I'm torn"............I could be wrong, but its just a possibility, and its my guess.

Bob Dylan – Like a Rolling Stone Lyrics 17 years ago
I just wanted to add that that phrase "when you aint got nothing, you got nothing to lose" is my favorite quote of all time......it just screams how lifes losers have this freedom that proud, successful, arrogant people dont have. And like i said ^^^^^^ there, the "How does it feel" is said as a sarcastic told you so, but at the end of the song it changes to a liberizing great freedom, finally "How does it feel" Relief

Bob Dylan – Like a Rolling Stone Lyrics 17 years ago
All throughout the song, Bob talks about this "woman" who to me is stuck up. She threw the bums a dime, so to speak, then didnt think twice about them. As if it wasnt her problem, because in her life she was all set. She had it made with her "diplomat" and her high falootin life. She laughed at the clowns or jokers without realizing their struggles. Most "clowns" to me have problems and feel the need to make others laugh or entertain them, but really they are hurting inside. Someone tried to tell her basically not to be too "proud" or arrogant or stuck up (beware doll, your bound to fall) but she didnt take the warning seriously.......meanwhile the during the whole song Bob says in a sarcastic tone, "How does it feel" like someone would say if you did something stupid to hurt yourself, but, to me, what makes this song such a masterpiece is how those words, "how does it feel" change right after the last few lines. Like at first he says "how does it feel" to scrounge around for your food, and live on the streets after you had what you thought was the good life with your friends out drinking exchanging gifts, with your big shot "boyfriend" thinking you got it made. But then! At the end, he says that "napoleon in rags", this bum, so to speak, wants her, and he says go to him now , he calls you, when you have nothing, then you have nothing to lose, your invisible now, you have no secrets to conceal........she doesnt have to keep up with her "high class" life putting on a show for her friends, giving lifes losers a passing thought but not really caring about them.......then......and you can hear the resolution in the song before the last "HOW DOES IT FEEL" like its a great RELIEF, no longer saying it sarcastically (you got no secrets and nothing to lose, nothing to live up to or to put on a show anymore, absolutely brilliant, listen to the song people and see if you can hear it.....

Bob Dylan – Ring Them Bells Lyrics 17 years ago
"the city that dreams" honestly i didnt know where it was, so i googled it and i came across this website http://www.robert-fisk.com/articles456.htm
Iraq is considered by many to be modern day Babylon that is talked about in revelation.....
"time is running backwords and so is the bride" i can't help but to think of the word bride as in biblical terms and not an actual woman. The bride, i believe, is the church or "body" of Christ. The "four winds" also mentioned in the bible. Later in the song he says that "the lines are long" and i would think he is talking of family lines, possible the most famous of all family lines, the line of David. "and they're breaking down the distance between right and wrong" So true. What used to be considered sin is now commonly excepted in the world today, which the bible predicted would happen in the "end times"....our morals are slipping further and further away with each generation.

Bob Dylan – Shelter from the Storm Lyrics 17 years ago
hard to say exactly what was on his mind, but definately alot of biblical refernces. Here are some of my thoughts, i could be way off but just some ideas...."when blackness was a virtue" could refer to the time before christ as christ was known as the "light" (i think) ...."I came in from the wilderness" Jesus spent 40 days and nights in the wilderness being tempted by Satan......one other thing the bible is metaphorically written in my opinion alot of times.....the word "her" in the bible often referred to the early church or the "bride of Christ"..........a place where its always safe and warm, could mean being saved or salvation...........no doubt the "hilltop village" "gambled for clothes" "took my crown of thorns" are all referring to Jesus....Jesus "offered up his innocence" and was "repaid with scorn" as in the Bible Jesus was perfect and his torture and death was through nothing that he did........"nothing really matters much, its doom alone that counts" could mean we shouldn't be concerned with the things of this world, and that what matters is our salvation..........."Living in another country, bound to cross the line" many Jews were exiled to foreign lands, in the Bible, and will one day (supposedly) return to Jerusalem, that verse is followed by "someday I'll make 'IT' mine, not her....so he could be talking about the holy land "IT" and not a woman "her" that the bueaty is referring to.......well maybe some of this could help, kind of scatterbrained and there are some versus that i just dont know what they mean, like "preacher rides a mount" .....also perhaps when he says "everything up to that point had been left unresolved", before jesus what was there for salvation, or forgiveness of sins, "try imagining a place where its always safe and warm" Jesus is master of unconditional love and forgiveness,.....hope i didnt offend anyone and i'm just guessing i could be way wrong
