Okkervil River – Happy Hearts Lyrics 17 years ago
I remember not liking this song at first,
and now I realize how ignorant and shallow I was.
It would take an Okkervil River song to make me come to that realization.

Needless to say, I am now infatuated with this song.
Agreed, Will Sheff and Daniel Johnston= MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN. (if there is one, just sayin'.)

croakditch,

I can see how you would be confused, but that remark was not even made towards this song, merely the message Sheff is trying to get across. The whole idea behind my comment was to reiterate that fact that singers are not always the people you expect them to be based on their lyrics alone. Read IN CONTEXT, my comment is only agreeing with the first comment and including with a tiny for-instance. In fact, it hurts me for you to think I believe Will Sheff just writes lyrics without thinking about them. His attention to detail and his word placement making me utterly weak at the knees is what makes him one of my favorite song writers.

BEAR WITH ME THROUGH THIS.

In the back of my head I have a REAL idea of what this song is about, but I want to paint a picture in your mind of what I'd like to THINK it's a about.

SO there's this girl who's had this really good guy friend all her life that has been by her side through good and bad, yadda yadda... So now that they're in college and he has had feelings for her for a while now, she goes off the deep end ensuing a lifestyle that's just not her, according to the critical, over-protective best friend. After all the bullshit she's put him through, he finally decides to put her in her place and tell her what he really thinks. Including snarky comments like, "it's just too bad you couldn't do the same for me," and obnoxious repetitions of, "THERE IS A BATHROOM DOWN THE HALL!"(to wash out her lying eyes, of course!) He feels she has betrayed him to be like all the other women he has encountered, and she's nothing more than common. (somewhere in there I like to think she spent the night with a frat boy and had to do the Walk of Shame the following morning, but that's only in my wildest imagination.)

love, love, love you will sheff even if I make this song out to be something really wrong.....

i totally agree with Way AE.
example time: tim kasher.
i hate to bring him up because i'm always bringing him up, but he fits quite nicely in this example.

well, 99% of his fans think he's a drunken asshole who is obssessed with loneliness and his ex-lovers.

i REALLY don't think he's actually like that, even though it brings the LULZ sometimes. it also kinds of sucks that he's pegged as that kind of guy, which is a pathetic brand of man.

hate to break it to everyone. HE IS A NORMAL GUY. i think that ruins eveyrone's image of this broken man writing of his misfortune in relationships and drowning his sorrows in alcohol.

SOMETIMES, just sometimes, THEY'RE ONLY LYRICS.
OR the way they are feeling at the time, but it passes and they go back to living a fairly normal life, being their damn attractive, beard-faced selves.
speaking non-specifically and objectively, of course.

anyway, IAWTC.

The Good Life – Inmates Lyrics 17 years ago
take this from someone who can't listen to a song longer than 3 minutes without having a seizure...
this is one of the greatest songs he has ever written.
i NEVER listen to half of it and go to the next song on shuffle...i am IN love with this song.

and i love this more than any of his other long, epic songs (i.e. staying alive *cursive*, rest your head *the good life*) because it uses ALL 9 MINUTES to progress the story and puts it ALL out there for interpretation. and it isn't even redundant.

tim kasher.
you are a fucking god.
if you stop writing songs, i might as well just give up on music all together.
what'd be the point?
