| Daphne and Celeste – U.G.L.Y. Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think this song is just wonderful. It is bright, breezy, optimistic, fun-filled and cheerful. The whole thing is just a very bizarre joke about a stream of abuse that a cheerleader hurls at another girl. But it should not be taken too seriously. There is too much political correctness about these days, and some people tend to be easily-offended. But this is in no way offensive. It's just a bit of fun. Daphne and Celeste rule! |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Cupid De Locke Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The title "Cupid de Locke" is a reference to Matthew Locke (1621-1677), an English baroque composer, who wrote the score to "Cupid and Death" in 1653, a kind of ballet in which Cupid fires arrows to make people fall in love, and Death fires arrows which bring about a person's demise. They get their arrows mixed up and hilarity ensues. Two men are fighting a duel and instead of killing each other, they fall in love and start dancing! Sadly, young lovers are killed. A man falls in love with a monkey. Eventually, order is restored. The style of music in the SP song is similar to the baroque. Matthew Locke was the mentor of Henry Purcell who is much more famous. I suppose the title roughly means "Locke's Cupid". |
