MGMT – Kids Lyrics 17 years ago
Here is my opinion. This is correct.

The first four lines are about a child growing into the poor environmentally abusive habits of their parents. Picking bugs off plants, what are the consequences? Well none for the child. But for the bug (let's say it's a bee), it may pollinate and make honey. Now it can't and honey prices are 15.00 a bottle (kinda like moderating your behavior with oil) because it happens enough. He's submitting people and parents aren't thinking of the consequences and impact they have on the environment.

Thus the chorus.
"A family of trees wanted" who would want trees? Lumberjacks maybe, people who deal with wood based disposable products? People who want to make money selling those wood based disposable products?" He's saying to take only what you need from them, kinda a save the rainforest message
"To be haunted" i think he is imagining what it would be like to be haunted and terrorized by a plague of man out of control.

The first two lines of the second verse could be one of two things.
Either the ocean is warm because of green house gases and pollution or the water just broke of the mother of his soon to be child. Either way it's scaring him,. Shivers is a play on words because warm water literally can't give you the shivers, but you get the shivers when you become afraid.
The child is born looking for the attention of it's parents, probably a selfish child but not necessarily. the child grows up (memories fade) and they become a hazy reflection of their parents. With the closing lines, the song submits that the decisions you make are yours and if you sell out your principles it might hurt you and your environment more than you realize.

Jack Johnson – Losing Keys Lyrics 17 years ago
The song puts you in the mind of Jack Johnson walking to a room, probably the funeral of his cousin, maybe the reception. He's expected to speak maybe, because he's Jack Johnson, or maybe he just has to try and connect with them and he's nervous about that. We are about to overdo it is him talking to himself.

The song progresses and he talks about how he has been misplacing keys, keys are really important, and he feels like he has lost all importance of the things that used to be most important to him. Like the sea, Jack Johnson loves the sea, he made surf videos and he's sea-sick, sick of the sea.
I think the last line of the chorus could be him, as who he has become, reaching back to "save" himself, thus the you were me, and he doesn't like who he has become and rejects the help.

the chorus is basically how the rains represent things that get us down and sorrows and troubles and then they come and get us down but the sun sends Down it's light to warm us up and bring us strength to overcome the rains and trials in life. it's just like the water cycle and the way rain works. it's beautiful.

The end is about the cycle and how life takes him places he doesn't like to go an then he has anxieties and wants to get back to where he started. And then it rains. And he starts all over again.

I think they are pretty great and Jack Johnson is the Bob Dylan of our generation.
