I will never forgive myself for reading to the end of this. Most of the posts so far sound like this: "I want to make schwetty, schwetty love to the beatles." We get that the beatles are very good. Now get off it. If you didn't like this song you wouldn't be here. Kinda like you shouldn't be embarrased to be seen at K-mart because whoever sees you is there too. Unless they see you shopping while they are walking by- then you need to move. I still love you K-mart. I'm not sorry for that rant. Had to drop it like it's hot. You guys are all liars because Jet actually wrote this song about my (insert story about past broken relationship here). I like the lyrics about giving him back his point of view and him asking the other person to think for themselves and to choose on their own what to do. I think we have all at least once asked someone else to make a difficult decision for us and this is a nice reminder to not do that. |

This song does seem to be about the singer wishing for a friend to leave her husband for a relationship with him instead, no matter who it hurts in the process, including the singer. It sounds like a childish wish to have what he wants when he wants it. And we have all felt this way. To me, the house of cards he is singing about refers to conscience. A conscience is like a house of cards, when you have built it up you don't want it to fall but it is so fragile that it almost always does. So, leave your husband, forget about your conscience and I'll do the same with mine. Fall off the table where you belong and get swept into self deception. The infrastructure he is talking about collapsing is the emotional lives of everyone involved and the voltage spikes could be their selfish desires poking through the surface and acted upon, instead of suppressed. When he sings about denial he seems to be saying that both he and the woman who is to give up her husband are both going to have to be in denial about what they know is right to make it happen. The great thing about music is that we can all see the song how we want to, regardless of what the writers original intention was. Whatever it's about the writer sings and we listen and interpret for ourselves, and possibly learn something. Fantastic song. |
