Oh my dear Nike She took them away On her wings of victory the lyrics on pro-rock are wrong. listen to it closer and you can hear it. it also makes much more sense ie the Nike being goddes of victory is often depicted as having wings the part about the dinosours is pretty much self explanitory. the king herod part has to do with the birth of jesus. some speculate that the star of bethlehem was actually haley's comet during one of its near passes by earth. herod had all children under the age of two killed, in some accounts including his own son. i read somewhere that neil wrote this after the heavens gate cult commited mass suicide during the close passing of the Hale-Bop comet. it was supposedly recorded during elephant riders, which would be a year after the events happened. but i dunno. i would guess the crystal ball part comes from the prediction that hale-bop would bring in a new era and set the cult free. one of the only clutch songs ive never heard a live version of. |

road locomotive is a tractor trailer. ie a big rig. trucks use cbs to find out where cops are so road locomotive phone. truckers talk about were cops are. the most common place for cbs are either on the dashboard or attached to the top panel of the windshield. so thats where the buzz on the dash comes from. birds are also at times reffered to as radar detecors. when cops are around they sing like birds. depending on the driver the definition to the above differs. as far as doing lines (regardelss of drug) truckers get paid by the mile. so the more miles drice, the more money you get paid. which is why for every 15 hours you drive, you have to get 8 hours of rest. but people pad logs... ie driving 3 days for cali to florida, which is easily done. beyond that the drug references arent hard to read into |

Great depression and 1948? your off by about a decade. in 1948 isreal declared its independence. hence the last 1/3 of the song. As far as the holocaust goes, while deplorable wasnt the worst act of genocide ever, just the most recent one in the pop media, but thats a diff issue all together. the ironic thing about the genocide comment is that type o was once banned from performing in certain european countries do to petes a supposed familial relation to hitler. hence the song we hate everyone on Bloody kisses. as far as shunning the sun, isreal was created with the idea that jesus would come back after the creation of a new isreal, (cant remember the biblical verse but its in there), hence the zionist movement after ww2. again the ironic point being, both religions in region, muslim and judaism, belive jesus to be a prophet, not a savior. the alien and area 51 comment is just a metaphor for being foreign (culture and ideas), ie the people there dont give two shits about jesus. also, most of the area around jerusalem is for the most part unihabbitable desert, but people still make pilgrimages there for redemption. with the exception of christains, again which is ironic. the first verse is about as meaningful as the song dead again. hes saying ive dont this dont make the same mistake. now... reread this post with the idea that my point of view is not going to be the same as yours and thus is meaningless. to me thats the point of the song and most of the songs of the album. |
