Michi can you break down what all the words mean? I get the general message but I'd like to know the individual words. If so, thanks!!!

It refers to how if something (like a door hinge) is squeaky, it needs to be oiled. So she is saying "I'm squeaky, I need to be oiled." It's the getting oiled part that she's really referring to, being "squeaky" is almost like a joke.

Radiohead – Idioteque Lyrics 15 years ago
I feel like it's about the selfishness of the USA and the problems we are/aren't dealing with.

"I'm allowed everything all of the time" "swallow until I burst" etc is about being selfish and sheltered. There are people in this country who have never been to an underpriveledged neighborhood, never actually seen a homeless person or an orphan child. I feel this refers to ignorant citizens of the US in the beginning, and the selfish politicians who don't really care and just want their money at the end of the song.

the problems we ignore:
war and conflicts in other countries, hence, "bunkers." I like that this is mixed in with the lines pertaining to selfishness, the contrast between the lives of those in war and the lives of those who don't care.

Now we get into politics.
"Ice age" seems to be some sort of message about fear of the end of the world. Remember when everyone was talking about how "wars in the Middle East" was one of the signs of the apoc? Or global warming, or using up the Earth's resources...
"let me hear both sides" is almost a plea... shut up long enough for me to think for myself.

Now there is a progression. Scaremongering-what the politicians do. Mobiles chirping-the message spreads, the people buy it. Take the money--the politician's goal and reward for bsing the rest of us.

And back to the selfishness, getting whatever one wants with no consequences. About the last line... I just heard a recording live and it sounded like "Fathers and their children." The cycle continues. People follow tradition... fall into line... etc. Could also be an ironic statement about the founding fathers of the country and how we, their children, have fallen so far from their original morals and views. Comments/suggestions welcome!
