i think this song has absolutely nothing to do with a girl. I think this is a song about some 'friend' of Shaun's who was begging for his help at some point. But Shaun remembered that the friend was never there for him when he needed a friend. When Shaun wanted to die, he was without his friends. When all those other things happened, the friend was never there. So now that the friend is in need, Shaun "doesnt wanna save him anymore", and is just gonna let him fall. what goes around comes around. Just my opinion :) |

i think this song is about a guy who is in love with a girl, but he knows that for some reason they cant be together. He wants, wishes that he could be her everything, wishes he could be there for her. Even at the bridge, he has a moment where he convinces himself that theres still a chance. just the last glimmer of hope. But then it falls away with the final repetition of the chorus. No matter how strong the feelings between the two of them are, it never would be able to work, so it was time to fade away. They had to let go. i think that the "todays the day we find our way, grown" relates to two people maturing or changing and growing apart, so that even though the love was there, they are both new people and the relationship had died as they changed. Just my opinion :) |

im not sure if this was already said, but most of the music on Gutterflower (including this song) was written after John Rzeznick's divorce with his wife at the time. so, im thinking that this song definitely has to do with relationships, and possibly his relationship with his exwife. what i think is going on in this song is that two people who are in a relationship and its goin fine. then they hit a bump, an argument, and it turns into a falling out. this opens the speaker's eyes to the flaws of the girl and of the relationship. he realizes that she was previously "broken" before she came into the relationship, and she never let go of that hurt, and it held her back and led her to lie and pretend to be someone else who she thought the speaker would love more (all your lies werent enough to keep me here). the girl thought that he would fix her, she thought he was the answer. but he wasnt, and she just pulled him down with her. so they are breaking free. ending it. the last few lines arent just hope for him, but also him telling her that healing is out there. that the answer to her problems is out there, but he isnt the solution. its a bit of hope during a dark moment. well thats how i see it anyways |
