Song is about a 16 year girl in California in the late 1970's that opened fire on a grade school across from her house killing two and injuring I believe nine. When a reporter asked her why she did it she stated that she didn't like Monday's. Bob and the band were on tour in the USA at the time and were doing an interview when this story came across the telex machine where they were doing the interview. They wrote the song based on the incident. |

I have always assumed that this song was about Ian and the band knowing that he was at risk and turning a blind eye to the situation. I have never entertained the idea that this had anything to do with sex and that the gun in the song was metaphor for the danger signs that were being exhibited and ignored. The final verse I believe is summing up the whole Ian situation. Beginning by looking back on the situation when your are alone and your mind has quieted. Thinking about what happened and the things that were done thinking that they were doing the right thing but purhaps in essense were not. In the middle you start to reflect on the choice that the friend made by giving his life away and in return not being with the band today. It then goes on to discuss that this is a common occurance and no one really care because human life is just a commodity, land of meat. Finally he realizes his friend made a discision for himself and that discision was to end his lfe, for him the perfect kiss was the kiss of death. |
