I love this song! It's from Short Music For Short People. I guess it's just about sticking together through the hard times :) Lol @ "It's funny: no money makes children's noses runny"! |

| Bright Eyes – First Day of My Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"But I'd rather be working for a paycheck / Than waiting to win the lottery" This line didn't mean much to me either until recently. You have to remember, even though this may be the love of his life, it's still going to take some working at, love is not the fairytale where everything magically works out and just because you can't live without each other definitely doesn't mean things will always be easy. So to me this line means he would rather be in this relationship, working at it every day for the little rewards, than to give up and hold out for this imaginary love in which everything runs smoothly and he doesn't have to try. I think he is being so romantic but at the same time realistic: "With these things there's no telling / We'll just have to wait and see". So beautifully true and full of fear and promise. |

| Jennifer Lopez – Cherry Pie Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| "It's funny how those type of guys have a way of getting what they want": this sums up my crush *exactly*, the Ultimate bad boy but somehow I "just can't seem to stay away"... | |
| Jordin Sparks – No Air Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| When I read the lyrics it sums up how I feel about my boy, he doesn't live nearby ("I'm here alone, didn't wanna leave") and I feel like "tell me how I'm supposed to breathe with no air" when he has to go away... "my world revolves around you" | |
| Farside – Moral Straightjacket Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song is about a really sweet, sensitive guy (aren't all Farside songs??) who has major lust for a girl but feels like he should hold back and not give in to his feelings rather than "relinquish his nobility". I feel like he is afraid the girl might feel used or that it might tarnish their relationship/friendship so he is bound by a "moral straightjacket" that he has created. The last lines suggest he thinks of himself of a "knight in shining armor" type character, and these were always gallant, gentlemanly figures; it may be that he imagines himself in a more traditional sense than most young people tend to live their lives nowadays, and not just give in to his physical desires but be strong and protective: "I'll patrol your backyard with my moral straightjacket". I think it's a beautiful, unusual statement of love, and makes me want to meet a guy like that... :) | |
| Farside – Too Much, Too Late Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song reminds me of a really close friend of mine who is going through a divorce. The lines in the song are really similar to feelings he has expressed about the situation: "...I just don't care about anything, I simply don't want to bother with my life right now, and all its lifelessness". The rest of the verses sum up the way the ex is behaving toward him, "I heard you've got things to say to me, I was always good at listening but I haven't heard you speak to me" / "You used to be my home, now you're someone I don't know". It's weird how you see a totally different side of someone after a breakup. This song also encapsulates the bitterness that can start to consume a person when they go through a difficult breakup, and it almost feels like he wants to throw stuff she has said back in her face: "Something's gonna break... maybe the diamonds in my eyes that I just can't seem to find". There's real, honest pain in the lyrics and delivery, and I'll never hear it in the same way again. |

| Farside – The Slowdance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song gives me the same vibes as Only In Dreams by Weezer: a self-confessed nerd dreams of asking a beautiful girl to dance, and dares to hope she might even say yes and take a chance on a sensitive guy for once... "Cause loneliness is who I know, perhaps he's someone you know, a mutual friend of ours": I think he's talking about how they move in different social circles, but maybe loneliness is 'someone they both know'... it's a beautiful song. | |
| Farside – Audience Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
From personal experience, it sounds like the character in this song is or has been infatuated with a really self-absorbed girl, someone basically pretty insecure who craves a lot of attention especially from guys. "Will I still be getting my turn?... another face in your audience, is what I hoped I'd never be". Another facet of the story is his inability to be upfront about his feelings, and the girl has obviously gotten tired of waiting for him to make the first move: "now I know I should have made my move some time ago... I've been locked out before, but now your welcome mat has been pulled from beneath my feet". He realizes it is his own indecision that has left him in this position: "I chose to be alone, now I can't complain... I'll just mope around for a while, cause it's all that I can do". He is also really insecure and hard on himself about it: "The hardest part of making my mistakes, I always rub them in my face... I hope you'll never know, why would you care anyway?" I think the meaning of this song is about two people with issues, and how they both let their insecurities cause a lack of communication and get in the way of their relationships. |

| Farside – I Hope You're Unhappy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Best line: "I don't want you to cry any more than I've cried, just at least as much". Weird twist on loving someone, wanting them to be as unhappy as you are about the breakup, I figure ultimately he wants them back together. "I don't wanna be at home at all, cause everytime that I'm there I'm crushed that you haven't called". The line that gets me everytime is "I know your children will be beautiful, but I don't ever want to know that they exist at all", it sounds so heartfelt and that's why I love Farside :) the best songs seem to come from the worst imaginable pain. |

| Regina Spektor – Fidelity Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I loved this song since it came out, but have only just now realized what it means. I and someone I have known for a long time are just finding out how we feel about each other and it means a lot because of our history together. At one point we were both quite frustrated and wondering if it would be worth it to go ahead although there are a million reasons not to, and this song sums up how I would feel if I didn't have him anymore. She has never let herself completely fall in love with someone before, thrown caution to the wind and taken a risk with her feelings in that way. She has immersed herself in love songs, traditional expressions of love which are not always realistic, and can make you think that what you're feeling is not love: "And I hear in my mind, all these words". In the second verse she is describing how she realizes it is better to have loved and lost than not at all; she would rather have experienced everything that meant so much to her: how they met, fell in love, the way he kissed, and how she felt when he called, even though it means she finally knows how it feels to be hurt with nothing to break her fall. In the final lines it seems as if she doesn't believe what her friends are saying; that it will never get better, she is heartbroken and loved him too much to get over it. True love tends to leave scars, which fade with time but never really heal, when someone has touched your life so significantly it is amazing to feel something so deeply even if it means being hurt. |
