Matt Shultz has said himself that they view themselves more as a social group than a political one. Either way, they definitely have something to say - whether it be about the government or the people, and it's directed at the people. A group doesn't need to be political to be able to be saying something. |

to me this song is about facades and how everything/everyone has a front of some sort that they put on. Also I feel like it's about how a girl and how he's been so enthralled with her, but all it's been is a facade and not the true her ("pull back the curtains, took a look into your eyes. My tongue has now become a platform for your lies", along with the whole of the chorus), [[but he can't COMPLETELY blame her, because then he'd be being hypocritical ("A hand holds up the sky, while shamefully I make my plea. The alters callin, but my legs won't seem to stand. Guess I'm a coward, scared to face the man I am."]]<- I'm really iffy about this part. It could be this, or it could be that finding out about her has made him realize that there are just so many fakes in the world, or maybe he's scared that he's turned into a fake. Either way, there are SO many metaphors that I see for facades (for lack of a better word, again, sorry) in general in this song: "buried beneath this house, my spirit screams and dies again" "our back a monster wears a cloak of persian leather" "beneath the TV screen, i've fallen to my knees" "a fabricated disbelief" "pull back the curtains, took a look into your eyes" "Deep in the jungle, camouflaged by all the fallen leaves" |

Personally I see this as them being extremely anti-war about America's war in Iraq ("Out in the desert"). How the government wants it, but it's not what we need ("It's what they want, but it's not what we need") but rather than protest, we all just pretend the deaths happening over there aren't really happening/just follow along, or rather "slipped into a coma" or "cover our eyes" or "you bait the hook and here come the children" but that's just what I got. I'd love to hear other opinions! |

| Bayside – Megan Lyrics | 16 years ago |

i thought that this song was about two people who were together. then one passed away, and the other just wants to be with her. when it says "I was on the tracks when the gates came down And suddenly I recognized those bloodshot rearview eyes as mine And I heard that whistle call my name And I almost drove away But Megan I had a feeling that you would be on that train So I just waited there for you" i think thats saying that he was about to move, but then he thought that if he died then and there, he might be with her again. then "Caught a ride to another town Where the air was clean and the sun never goes down Everyone was standing in a line in between the landing and the stairs I heard somebody call my name I almost climbed the stairs But Megan I had a feeling that someday you'd meet me there So I just waited there for you" i think that's him thinking about going to heaven [up the stairs = heaven] and thinking that she would be there waiting for him, but what if she's not "So I sat down on the tracks and waited for a train to take me back to you And somebody came and took my hand And I finally had to go But Megan I just want you to know that I waited as long as I could" he thought that sounded good, so he tried to commit suicide because he just wanted to be with her, but someone led him away from suicide before he killed himself. |

Its sad that while the song moves from the arguing parents to the actual split up, it also moves from "It makes me feel better when I hear them say, everything will be wonderful someday" to "I don't believe you when you say everything will be wonderful someday" and "I don't wanna hear you say everything is wonderful now" sad song, but amazing too. lovee it. |

this song is amazingg. I agree with sweetmelissa1120:: I've loved everything about you that hurts, so Let me see your moves, Let me see your moves Lips pressed this close to mine, True Blue [i've seen your bad side, now let me see what you are now] But the prince of any failing empire knows that Everybody wants, everybody wants To drive on through the night If it's a drive back home [everyone wants to go back to easier times (/home) cause the present moment tends to (seem to) suck.] Things aren't the same anymore Some nights, they get so bad You almost pick up the phone [they have been apart for a while, before she was fine, but now hes missing him/ is really lonely] Trade baby blues for wide eyed browns (i love this line) I sleep with your old shirts And walk through this house in your shoes, You know it's strange It's a strange way of saying, I'm supposed to love you I'm supposed to love you [like i said before they have been apart for a while and hes starting to miss her too, but he doesn't love her] I've already given up on myself twice [i left myself out in the metaphoric cold before] Third time is the charm, third time is the charm [but this time i won't be back] Threw caution to the wind [i try to separate myself from you] But I've got a lousy arm [but i never end up far] ^^that verse was kindofa guess And I've traced your shadows on the wall Now I kiss them whenever I'm down Whenever I'm down [i miss you] Figured on not figuring myself out [but i don't really want to fall in love you again (or realize that i did?)] Things aren't the same anymore Some nights, they get so bad I almost pick up the phone [like i said before, been apart for a while, but now he really misses her/ is really lonely.] Trade baby blues for wide eyed browns I sleep with your old shirts And walk through this house in your shoes, You know it's strange It's a strange way of saying That I know I'm supposed to love you I'm supposed to love you [said it before] Born under a bad sign, but you saved my life That night on the roof of your hotel "Cross my heart and hope to die Splintered from the headboard in my eye" Photo-proofed kisses I remembered so well [him saying its you that got me through the hard times, and i won't forget it] Trade baby blues for wide eyed browns I sleep with your old shirts And walk through this house in your shoes, You know it's strange It's a strange way of saying That I know I'm supposed to love you I'm supposed to love you [said it before] that makes so much sense to me. Love FOB :] |
