The Velvet Underground – Femme Fatale Lyrics 17 years ago
i got a live version of this 'live at max's kansas city', he explains what the song is about at the beggining, pretty much what y'all been saying - bout someone whose just awful to you etc

the best thing though is just as they start he says "this is also the first song that we ever wrote that had an augmented chord" haha classic

Cold War Kids – Against Privacy Lyrics 17 years ago
yeah the whole thing bout the little governments.. tis true that its the republican right wing theory, but also part of anarchism. i think this song is a collective political statement of the band members.

but i dont think this is a neo liberal republican anthem, as they are "against privacy"(privacy as in private property is a fundamental ideology of the right)
they also talk bout the pope in prada (hypocrisy of the wealthy church? - left wing ideas of wealth)

so me and a friend were joking that this is more of an anarcho communist anthem, after all they are against privacy (communism), and big governments (a doctrine of anarchism)

still im not sure, im kinda just raving... an anarcho communist manifest? probably not..

Stevie Ray Vaughan – Voodoo Child (Slight Return) (Jimi Hendrix Experience cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
like EVERY srv song, the sound is too clean and overproduced. hendrix had the real raw sound. as a guitarist, srv was amazing, but i just cant listen to his band. its almost souless - the drums sound like theyre electric for gods sake...

The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army Lyrics 17 years ago
I thought there was a possibilty that the seven nation army could refer to the G7 (an economic pact) of britain, france, germany, america, italy, japan and i think its canada?? China and russia are in the G8 though... anyway they're all countries with shit loads of cash and armies... that could relate to the war idea that many have mentioned

Our Lady Peace – Innocent Lyrics 17 years ago
oh man i remember when this song came out in 02 in new zealand when i was round 12, no one had ever heard of this band before - was huge at my primary school. whenever i hear it (hardly ever now) i pump it. takes me back to simpler times growing up in a small town..

Immortal Technique – Dance With The Devil Lyrics 17 years ago
I hope every disillusioned kid caught up in a youth gang hears this song and is scared shitless.. mind blowing song, a friend of mine showed this to me on his ipod at school some years back. instantly that piano hook just sucked me in and i had no idea what i was bout to hear! yea i agree the whole raping his mom thing is a bit exagerated but i think he just does it to reinforce his message. i mean, if he just raped some random chick it wouldnt really hit you eh?

The Velvet Underground – Oh! Sweet Nuthin Lyrics 17 years ago
i love the simple chords, and the melody is just amazing - especially the solo. lou reed is an underated gutarist, he doesnt need to play extremely fast like page and clapton were doin at the time, he plays with such a sweet tone. with respect to page and clapton of course.

Bob Dylan – Oh, Sister Lyrics 17 years ago
you could switch sister with brother, father, mother, i think its indifferent. to me, this is a song of humility and love, calling on your 'sister' in the troubled times; treating others as we wanna be treated, or at least a plea for this. its kinda saying - look we're all (born) the same under god, treat your brother, sister, with respect. the best recording of this song on the 'hard rain' album sounds very gospel-like. even though he attributed the song to joan or sara on some occasions, the christian connotations are way too clear to ignore i reckon. either way you see it, its very humbling to listen to, love it.
