Led Zeppelin – Houses of the Holy Lyrics

I feel honored to be the first to have a different view on this song. Like many of Zeppelin's songs, there is more than one meaning. Sure on the surface it appears to be about sex, but knowing Zeppelin, there is more to uncover under the surface. By taking her to the movies and taking her to a show he is showing her the messages that will make her garden (her mind) grow (expand). And in her mind he plants the seeds of love (the message), much like Zeppelin does with their songs. And all of this probably had help from drugs which easily open the gates of our gardens so to speak. And by doing so, reveal life's truth. You see rock and roll is quite spiritual, more so than organized religion. Most of Zeppelin's song are about this awakening to devine truth.

It makes me wonder if the poem "The Gods of the Copybook Headings" plays any part. What I do know is the song is about seeking truth and finding hope. It's far from evil and it's not about drugs. True Zeppelin fans should know this. You see, Led Zeppelin was just the messenger (as were/are many bands) it's up to us to listen to the message and it's truth, not the lies about it. I also believe it was co-written by a higher power, you can feel it. The song is so powerful right now with Obama becoming president, it fits right into place with what's going on.

Once again the message is about hope. I find it to be very spiritual as if it were God singing to me, just like with Stairway to Heaven. That's how he communicates to us. And to think those conservative christians called Zeppelin's music satanic! ha!

This is just another conscious song like so many of Zeppelin's tunes. And like so many of their songs it is about peace and awareness. I find it laughable to think people called their music satanic when it actually came from a higher power and consciousness.

I believe your interpertations of the meaning of the song evolves as you evolve. Like he says "sometimes words have two meanings". For instance the word "buying" can mean to purchace or to informally believe in something. Maybe she is buying the bullshit fed to her in church and giving money to the church will get her into heaven. But little does she know none of that is necessary to get into heaven. Because heaven can be found in the beauty of nature and the whispering wind. It is really about how songs bring a message. And this was during a time when the message of awareness was coming across through songs. So many of Zeppelin's songs convey a message of awakening. This song is trying to tell you to listen for the truth. The message is stated very clear for you as if to sum it up for you. That "all are one and one is all". That's it. That is the true meaning of the song.
