I could listen to him sing the last verse millions of times and I wouldn't get sick of it. In fact, I probably have. Ooh Christ, the way he says "And here come the tears, heavy and hot." sends chills throughout my entire body. I can almost feel his breath on the back of my neck in the way he says those last three words. Before I make a mess of myself, I'll continue.. Ah, yes, I agree that it's from the point of an abusive partner. But Ingrid or whomever he happens to be speaking of won't leave. There's a love there that refuses to be broken, or she won't let herself break it, at least. It's an intense song, because upon first listening you feel the passion, and your hear the emotion, but the lyrics are hidden behind this melody, as monsierburden said. Takes a couple of tries before you catch the intent. |

Ahh, I'm surprised this song doesn't have more comments also. It seems to relate to the confusions of every boy and girl. That time when your life is full of contradictions and you want to break free, sort of a thing. Live a life of simplicity and joy. Patrick and his giraffes.. hehe. |

I've loved Patrick for several years now, and this song is by far one of the most gorgeous pieces by him I've ever heard. His voice has got this breathy texture that I can't quite explain-- it lets on something surreal, you know? It's a simple, true, heart-felt song that he sings with an undertone of passion. It's not put out there right away, but it's something felt rather than heard only in the slightest. I live in New York, and unfortunately never got a chance to see him when he promoted any of his albums. I'm waiting for his next one, though.. or perhaps I'll get to London soon after I graduate high school. I hope I do. I need to see this boy. |
