This song is just about being a human. Being weak, being strong and staying optimistic. Just deal with your life, don't let it pass by. Nothing much more to say. She said everything. |

| Marina and the Diamonds – Are You Satisfied? Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song talks about being different and wanting it to stay that way no matter what. She has a goal in her life and no matter what happens, she'll keep pursuing it. She keeps asking "us", the "listeners/spectators": "Hey, do you have a dream as well or do you just go with the flow?" "Are you satisfied with an average life? Do I need to lie to make my way in life? Are you satisfied with an easy ride? Once you cross the line will you be satisfied?" With this, she wants to tell us she isn't happy with taking things easy, but fighting for them against all odds. She doesn't want to change her character just because she might have succeeded in one thing. There are many more things to do, much more to accomplish. She doesn't go with the flow, she cuts her way just the way she is. A fighter. A coward. A human. "I was pulling out my hair The day I cut the deal Chemically calm Was I meant to feel happy That my life was just about to change? One life pretending to be The cow who got the cream Oh, everybody said Marina is a dreamer People like to tell you what you're gonna be It's not my problem if you don't see what I see And I do not give a damn if you don't believe My problem is my problem That I never am happy It's my problem, it's my problem On how fast I will succeed Cause it's my problem If I wanna pack up and run away It's my business if I feel the need to Smoke and drink and swear It's my problem, it's my problem If I feel the need to hide It's my problem if I have no friends And feel I want to die" Sad inside because she's not quite accomplished yet, she prays for her future. Nevertheless, she's satisfied if all she has to do is wait and pray. She's not about to go change for anyone, will cut her path just the way she is, even if it takes years. "Sad inside In this life I'm satisfied praying Sad inside In this life I'm satisfied waiting" Constructive comments more than welcome. |

| La Roux – In for the Kill Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song is about love, however you look at it. "We can fight our desires, But when we start making fires We get ever so hot Whether we like it or not." Whether we like it not, when love hits us, it consumes us with passion and we become hotheaded. "They say we can love who we trust But what is love without lust?" How can you love someone if you can't be close to them, touch them? "Two hearts with accurate devotions. And what are feelings without emotions?" How can you tell the other person you love them if you can't confess your feelings? "I'm going in for the kill. I'm doing it for a thrill. I'm hoping you'll understand, And not let go of my hand." She's going "in for the kill", going to confess everything. She's doing "it for the thrill", the excitement of finally being closer to the loved one. She's hoping they'll understand her feelings and not let her go. I believe you can interpret the rest of the song easily once you understand the first part... It's a brilliant song. |

Beautiful, beautiful song. I strongly feel it sings about a breakup, after the tears and fears, a bright future comes again. Goodbye dark... Goodbye tears... Into the light. |

| Dido – Don't Believe in Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
My interpretation is something. like this. "I wanna go to bed with arms around me, but wake up on my own, pretend that I'm still sleeping, until you go home." You date new people, meet new people. She doesn't sing about one person here, she sings about the strings of people you encounter during life. She wants to be protected and loved, yet can't make a connection with them (yet or ever?). "When I don't believe in love you're to close to me, thats why you have to leave." This verse talks about new people in her life, coming and going; she's unable to establish an emotional connection and that's why she wants them to leave. She wouldn't be singing this song to a person that she could make an emotional connection to. Whoever is next to her at that time, if she can't believe in actual connection happening or will happen, she can't bare the thought of not being able to give as much as she would receive from a person who's fallen for her. It's a very moral thing to do, I think. It's best to wish them farewell after realizing it just can't happen. What do you think? |

| Tracy Chapman – Broken Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The picture makes a promise The flesh lets it be broken Life isn't your perfect picture, life is what you have. You can't just imagine something and hope for it to be so. Picture is one's idealism, and flesh (one's body/actions) isn't able to create an ideal picture. Your life is never what you wanted, not even halfway 'normal'. |

| Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Hello my lovelies! ...is how Imogen Heap would probably start her intro into explaining the song she wrote :) I'm not Imogen Heap, I'm a newcomer here and take a hobby of explaining the songs to myself and the people around me quite seriously. This song impressed me the first time I've heard it and after some time the whole thing came together when I realized this song is actually about "relationship" and eventual "break-up". Let me try to elaborate this through the lyrics... Where are we? what the hell is going on? the dust has only just begun to fall Crop circles in the carpet Sinking feeling In the first bridge she's thinking about her relationship: - "Where are we?" Where are we stand in this relationship now? - "What the hell is going on?" What the hell is going on with us? - "The dust has only just begun to fall... Crop circles in the carpet Sinking... feeling..." The dust very well symbolizes the staleness of it all, crop circles are appearing, she feels like she's sinking thinking about it. Spin me round again and rub my eyes this can't be happening when busy streets a mess with people would stop to hold their heads heavy - "Spin me 'round again and rub my eyes... This can't be happening" As it says, she cannot believe that she's losing what they had. - "when busy streets amass with people would stop to hold their heads heavy" Holding your head heavy means being ashamed of something, tilting your head down. Hide and seek Trains and sewing machines All those years They were here first - "Hide and seek" We're playing hide and seek with each other. I'm searching for you as you're searching for me. - "Trains and sewing machines, all those years, they were here first..." I can't quite figure this one out, but it could mean something in lines of "it's all been seen before". oily marks appear on walls where pleasure moments hung before the takeover the sweeping insensitivity of this still life - "oily marks appear on walls where pleasure moments hung before" The places where we've enjoyed each others company now is replaced with oily marks. Oil is pasty and gives an image of stagnance. "the takeover the sweeping insensitivity of this still life" The takeover of these thoughts, the insensitivity that I've (we've) been through, of this still life I've (we've) found myself in. Hide and seek trains and sewing machines Blood and tears They were here first - "Hide and seek, trains and sewing machines" As before. "Blood and tears, they were here first..." Blood and tears, being here first, this would symbolize "birth". A newborn baby. mm what d'ya say? that you only meant well, well of course you did this it's all for the best, of course it is that it's just what we need, you decided this? what did you say? "mm what d'ya say? that you only meant well, well of course you did this it's all for the best, of course it is that it's just what we need, you decided this? what did she say?" So, what did you say to me? That you only meant well with the break-up? Of course you did. It's for the best? Of course it is. This is just what WE need, you decided this? What did she say? About us breaking up. Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth Mid sweet talk newspaper word cut outs Speak no feeling no I don't believe you you don't care a bit - "Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth" Things you say always come with price. - "Mid sweet talk newspaper word cut outs" Things you say sound like quotes from newspapers. - "Speak no feeling no I don't believe you you don't care a bit" I don't want to hear anything from you about how and what you feel, I don't believe you; you don't care a bit about me. A tragic ending. Hope you liked my explanation and feel free to comment it :) ~Kyoukichi~ |
