I love this song. Had a bootleg tape of them and it had Tremelo Song when it was first played live with different lyrics, it seemed a work in progress wish I had a good copy of that or had the lyrics. It was very different! I don't suppose anyone else knows of this? |

Finally it has dawned on me all these years that he's really singing about It's a Knockout and Jeux Sans Frontiers! for years I thought could be about I A K or J S F but mainly I thought it was a rough comment on children playing sex games and war!. But hell no, it's was about a T.V gameshow all along! Though to be honest it was only a European thing so the Chinese bits were throwing me, ignoring them it really is about people in big costumes throwing water at each other, it's not all as daft as it seems as I remember that it was very Nationalistic and we were happy if we beat old Jerry and the Froggies if our Giant crossed over the line first. Mostly teams seemed to come from Minehead or Scarborough. I suppose now with one of the presenters with the well known laugh being questioned in Operation Yewtree the children thing might just be possible after all... Lyrics funny old things if you can't hear them very well! |

No, sorry you are wrong. It doesn't make sense not one. Not one what? You played and lost not won= well son you played the game (possibly of life) and lost therefore you are homeless etc. Look up David McWilliams on Wikipedia that tells the story. Marc Almond's version has the added verse at the end to make it more cheerful. I like both versions. |

I think it's about the difference to townies and us country bumpkins. I never knew what putting the holes in really meant though the Heroin idea works for me. The peeping Thomas and exhibitionist is just an irony. The Thomas is doing what he does as is the exhibitionist thus they are both getting something out of the encounter. This is the best Blur song for me after Kaleidoscope. |

In response to Tragik try The Wedding Present they also haven't released a rubbish album either. This song, Meds, Song To Say Goodbye and Follow The Cops are my fave tunes on the album. I hate Pierrot the Clown, mostly coz I have a clown phobia :) . |
