| This song is clearly about acid, Sunshine is slang for LSD. It changes your perception and everything is literally in his head. | |

xxxRaelenxxx nailed it, Molly is pure Ecstasy with no other substances added (tastes awful Btw), Taking it is often called "Kissing Molly". Good "Molly" is Said to be "Clean" meaning it has nothing else in it and you aren't getting ripped off... Sorry to all you who thought it was a love song but Eugene Kelly, lead singer of The Vaselines and the writer of this song, was known to have struggled with Ecstasy Addiction. |

I think a lot of you have been close with the lyrics but many of you have missed important things I'll go through line by line and tell you what i think they mean but first off you need some basic info: there are three characters in the song. First is the narrator who is young and living a fast lifestyle (Musician). He is constantly on the road and has had many one night stands in the past. The second character is his Friend Who shares his lifestyle and travels with him (Possibly Member of his Band. The third Character is Anna, a girl that the narrator has just met who is young and also seems to have a similar fast paced life. "My friend assures me, "It's all or nothing." I am not worried I am not overly concerned" at this point the narrator has already met Anna and possibly already slept with her, he has apparently just told his friend that he kinda likes this girl, maybe even loves her, the friend tells him that its no big deal and that Love is an all or nothing thing. This reassures the narrator... My" friend implores me, "For one time only, make an exception." I am not worried" This is yet again the friend responding to the narrator saying he likes this girl, and again he tells him to ignore it and reassures him... "Wrap her up in a package of lies Send her off to a coconut island I am not worried I am not overly concerned" This Line refers to him seducing women in the past for nothing but sex, and how his friend want him to do the same thing here... with the status of my emotions "Oh," she says, "you're changing." But we're always changing This line shows he is trying to take his friends advice and distance himself from her, He acts different around her, and she say he changing and he denies it saying We're always changing... "It does not bother me to say this isn't love Because if you don't want to talk about it then it isn't love" In this line he has convinced himself that he doesn't love her, Becuase if he did he figures he would be able to tell her and ignore his friend... "And I guess I'm going to have to live with that But I'm sure there's something in a shade of grey, Something in between, And I can always change my name If that's what you mean" In this line he accepts that he decides that it might not be love but it doesn't have to be just a one night stand, he wants something in between the two and tells his friend this. He adds that he can always "Change his name", a metaphor for leaving her, if things get two serious... "My friend assures me, "It's all or nothing." But I am not really worried I am not overly concerned" The same line as before but this time its his friends response to the "in-between" Comment, Telling him he doesn't think there is an in-between but this fails to worry the narrator... "You try to tell yourself the things you try to tell yourself To make yourself forget I am not worried " More of the narrator telling himself hes not in love... "If it's love," she said, " then we're going to have to think about the consequences." She can't stop shaking I can't stop touching her and..." As he begins to get closer to her again Anna now brings up the idea of love/long-term relationship which scares her too... "This time when kindness falls like rain It washes her away and Anna begins to change her mind "These seconds when I'm shaking leave me shuddering for days," she says And I'm not ready for this sort of thing" This line talks about how Anna has now begun to want a serious relationship and this "These Seconds when I'm Shaking" Meaning Sex and Discussions about love, leave her confused and scared, and the narrator realizes no matter how much he loves her he isn't ready to settle down and give up his lifestyle... "but I'm not going to break and I'm not going to worry about it anymore I'm not going to bend, and I'm not going to break and I'm not going to worry about it anymore It seems like I should say, "As long as this is love..." But it's not all that easy so maybe I should" The narrator now admits it is love but he still isn't going to let thing stop his lifestyle... "Snap her up in a butterfly net Pin her down on a photograph album I am not worried I've done this sort of thing before But then I start to think about the consequences Because I don't get no sleep in a quiet room and" The Narrator now considers leaving and thinking of her as a trophy (Caught Butterfly, Photo) like his other one night stands that he has done before but this idea bothers him and he can't sleep... "The time when kindness falls like rain It washes me away and Anna begins to change my mind And everytime she sneezes I believe it's love and Oh lord, I'm not ready for this sort of thing" Now the Narrator begins to consider staying but he still isn't ready to give up his lifestyle... "She's talking in her sleep It's keeping me awake and Anna begins to toss and turn And every word is nonsense but I understand and Oh lord, I'm not ready for this sort of thing" The narrator hears Anna talking in her sleep, He Can't understand her but he knows it means this is bothering her as bad as him... "Her kindness bangs a gong It's moving me along and Anna begins to fade away It's chasing me away She disappears and Oh lord, I'm not ready for this sort of thing" The narrator decides that if he doesn't leave now it will only make it harder later and her kindess (sex, intimacy) makes him feel Guilty so he finally leaves and eventually forgets about her... This song is based on a true story from adam's life, he explains it here: "http://everything2.com/title/Anna+Begins" Hoped this helped and wasn't extremely long haha |

| Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is about power and corruption. the beggining says that we at this point in time all have the power to do anything. It also tells about how we put to much faith in celebrities and musicians. It explains how when faced with absolute power, unchecked by anyone, and equipped with with nuclear weapons, it is human nature to act on a whim. anyone can become a Hitler no matter how good their intentions are. No tyrant has ever considered themselves evil. When someone realizes "I can do anything without permisssion". They will lose all sense of morals or try to shape the world the way they want or think it should be... | |
