I thought I could never like another WILD IS THE WIND since hearing Nina Simone's version-- but I have to say after hearing this one it is hard for me to listen to the Nina version again. I love both of them. Hmmm, what gets me about Cat Power's version is how she says "MY LIFE" in the line "With your kiss my life begins" This part just gets to me. Just close your eyes and just imagine someone having that much power over you to jumpstart your life with a kiss. She sounds so sad when she sings this part. I just love it! I agree with AYCHSLI, this song does pull at your lungs and heart. It is a REAL pulling-- and it hurts! To me, this song is just about an obsession. It's beyond a regular ol' love song. It's about hungering for someone and no other one can compare to the obsession. Also: Like a leaf clings to a tree, Baby, please, cling to me. Here, I get the feeling that she is used to doing the clinging, but she wants someone to cling to her finally the way she clings. |
