Slipknot – Wait And Bleed Lyrics 8 years ago
@[sailingallalone:23107] not a bad analysis, regardless of whether that's what Knot really meant. The only part that doesn't make sense to me is "Everything is 3-D Blasphemy".

@[BraxtonLyric:22923] Thanks for the explanation, but I don't get the "Some don't lie" lyric. It just sounds totally contradictory in the context of this overall meaning. O_o

Metallica – Disposable Heroes Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with metallicaobsessor. In AJFA especially, Metallica had their finger on the true pulse of how the world is run, and I'm glad too that they and I are on the same page on those matters.

Unfortunately, the way their views progressed over the years is truly shocking to me as a fan. James Hetfield has stated on multiple occasions that he supports the current wars in the Middle East??? They even accepted an invitation to play on the opening party for Modern Warfare, a game which is pure pro-war, pro-US-imperialism propaganda. sucks...

Slayer – Postmortem Lyrics 14 years ago
Some good ideas all-round. My take is that the song describes a man's increasing conviction that he needs to die, and of his preparation for an expected afterlife. Throughout the course of the song, the man becomes progressively more obsessed with death, to the point where his mere preparation to face death turns to actual seeking death. There's a mood shift for the last two verses, and we get a first-person view into the man's mind, and we are shown that he will possibly involve other people in his act of dying.

I'm wondering if he hasn't begun to doubt the existence of an afterlife, though... He says "Come and die with me -forever-". Also, "Non-rising body from the grave showing new reality." Maybe he doesn't care about the afterlife any longer and just wants to die? "I'm only after death."

And yes, Tom's falsetto in that "Await the final call!" is from another world.

can anyone enlighten me as to the purpose of the lyrics "impulsive habitat" and "impulsive sabbath"? They always seemed absurdly random and meaningless to me in the context of the song.

Godsmack – Re-Align Lyrics 15 years ago
One of the best Godsmack songs, and an awesome solo by Tony.

As for the meaning, it's pretty clear, to me at least. There are some things with his life that are not good, so he purposely isolates himself, falling into apathy, knowing that that's the way to set them straight.

Kreator – Voices Of The Dead Lyrics 15 years ago
Great song, I love how they managed to put a ballad-ish song on Enemy of God and it fits just fine. The bass intro and vocal harmony in the chorus are freaking amazing!

The song is about a person who gets contacted by someone from the beyond/afterlife. Or at least, he believes he hears voices. Said voices promise him great joy and a perfect world if he joins them. (e.g. he has to die)The person has had enough of his life of pain, so he does join them in the end.

Metallica – Disposable Heroes Lyrics 15 years ago
IAmAzrael, you're one of the biggest retards ever.

This song is one of the best examples of an anti-war song, and not just by Metallica or in metal, but in music in general. And it is also my favorite song by Metallica.

It's not about "using your fucking brain". Just read the lyrics: "Bred to kill, not to care, do just as we say": The whole way you've been raised by the system has deprived you of your will and made you a killer, not a free-thinker. You can't use your fucking brain.
You are too frail to make your stand and object: "Soldier boy, made of clay" - Clay is a material that is very easy to manipulate and give any shape you want, but once baked, it becomes very brittle and easily breakable.

Still, as dehumanizing as all that goes on in war is, the hero in the song has retained a bit of his conscience and is able to see through all the madness. That's why in the mid-section of the song he asks himself "Why am I dying?" and towards the end, he reaches the realization: "I was born for dying" However, it is much too late now, and he realizes his helplessness to change his fate, so he just accepts it (final verse)

In war, you are just a mindless puppet, and it's the people above, the ones you don't see, that pull your strings. They are in charge of your thoughts, of your actions, of your life and death.

Look at the album cover: You see a huge, huge graveyard, going as far as the eye can see, and to each gravestone is attached a string, and all strings are held by the puppet master, faceless, represented only by a pair of hands. That's what being a soldier is really about.

Foreigner – Blinded By Science Lyrics 15 years ago
I generally agree with Inverted-Shadow. It's about how recently the human world has been driven by science instead of emotion. The rate at which technological advancements occur is staggering to many people, as they find it harder and harder to just stop for a second and enjoy their being. A lot is sacrificed in the name of science - peace, well-being, morality...

Metallica – Damage, Inc. Lyrics 15 years ago
metalupyourass (5th comment, 1st page) has it right. It's about the uncompromising struggle to preserve your place in this life - your values, your morals, who you are. To break free from the oppression, you have to be relentless, merciless, sometimes even violent, and most importantly - stick to your instincts.

Don't think too hard about the lyrics, because they will only confuse you more and more. It's the music you should concentrate on.

Death – Spirit Crusher Lyrics 15 years ago
Yep, you have it. It's about people who constantly put down others and get pleasure from it too. I think that Chuck finishes the song on an optimistic note with that last verse. He says that it will only go on for so long, until someone raises his voice and lets it all out.

Death – Flesh And The Power It Holds Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is about the frailty of flesh, but also about its perceivable power. Flesh fools us into thinking ourselves physically immortal, but may also betray us.

Metallica – Dyers Eve Lyrics 15 years ago
First of all, people, it's stupid to assume that James wrote this about HIS OWN parents. Bands put ideas and opinions in their lyrics, NOT necessarily personal experiences.

Well, as most people have said already, this song is about a person's bitterness towards his/her parents. Bitterness that was caused by their overprotection and hypocricy ("do as i say, not as i do"), which prevented that person to experience the world on his own. In the end, he has grown too dependent on them and cannot embrace life on his own.

What bugs me is that I have no idea what the song's title is supposed to be. "Dyers Eve". Someone said that "dyer" is a person who dies, and these are the last moments of his life. I buy that.

Kreator – Extreme Aggressions Lyrics 15 years ago
First of all, the name of the track is "Extreme Aggression". No 's' at the end.
Second, there's two lines missing from the second verse, but I can't make out exactly what Mille is saying, nor can I find them on any other lyrics site. Also, the chorus changes slightly each time it is repeated.

I think this whole album is one very relevant piece of music for the entire generation. It's funny that, even though I was barely born when it came out, a lot of the stuff Mille sings about actually bears meaning for today's young people as well. You can feel it.

Anyway, this song is obviously about a tormented soul who has been driven to extreme aggression. He/she knows nothing other than violence, constantly thinking and fantasising about it. Inside, he is deeply troubled and questions his sanity. He understands that it was society that made him this way (brought him to his knees), and he realises that he is helpless to stop himself. He then wishes his own death, but vows to take his revenge on those who played with his emotions and turned him into what he is.

What I can't understand is "Pushed up by white lines". Kinda sounds like cocaine, but I'm not sure.

Epica – Martyr Of The Free Word Lyrics 15 years ago
Well, the first poster pretty much explain whatever little there was to explain. It's a song about freedom of beliefs, freedom of speech, freedom of expression in general.

Pretty good lyrical effort by the band on this one.

Metallica – No Leaf Clover Lyrics 15 years ago
My interpretation is that there's this guy, who in the past has had a history of constant bad luck. Recently, however, he's had a string of successful occurences, and he's feeling on a roll, seizing the new opportunities hand over fist. Unfortunately, he gets too giddy by his success and quick reward, and he pays no mind to his surroundings, and fails to interpret the coming events correctly.

By the way, what a great song! Maybe the best song that Metallica have produced since The Black Album? I think so. Definitely has a potential to establish itself as a classic if only they played it more often live.

Megadeth – Blood of Heroes Lyrics 15 years ago
The song does seem to be about soldiers but it's really a metaphor about Megadeth's standing in the music business. About how they've fought to get where they are and how they will keep on fighting, and how even if they fall, they will still be remembered.

The only part I don't really understand is:
"
My legion's when we do the crime
Let's get one thing straight
To get there early is on time
And showing up on time is late
"

I totally can't get what that's about, even though it sounds pretty cool.

Megadeth – Looking Down the Cross Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is unique. I don't think that Megadeth have a song quite like this in their entire discography. It's truly emotional, but also very riddling at the same time.
What is Dave saying? There are a lot of metaphors, and it will take quite some time to decypher them.

I think that Blackened66 has got the general idea, though. The lyrics are an insight into Christ's final thoughts, and how he wished evil to those who crucified him.

However, there is something that bugs me. The last verse ("And this is all you got..."), I can't figure out why Satan ("chief of evil") is "set free to sit upon the throne". Does Jesus set him free by harboring all these vengeful thoughts?

Megadeth – Vortex Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this is one of the best songs off CW, along with She-Wolf and FFF.

Dave's vocal work is amazing, and so are the lyrics.

I must admit that I can't tell what the song is about. Basically, it's a "vortex" of seemingly disjointed images with a unifying fantasy theme.

Megadeth – My Kingdom Lyrics 16 years ago
ok... Here is my very literal interpretation of the song.

There once used to be a great warrior who fought for a cause. He was victorious and decided to settle down. However, a transformation occurs in his life (literally, it says "drink from the chalice and be reborn") and he discovers that his job is not quite done yet. He understands that the past events were only a prelude to something even bigger and that he has to take up the sword again. And now, having reached the truth, he feels reborn and fights with even greater conviction.

Well, that's it, taking it from a literal point of view. Of course, it can all be an allegory.

Tori Amos – Raining Blood (Slayer cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
Well, I couldn't believe it at first when I saw that Tori Amos had actually done a cover of Raining Blood. I listened to it a couple of times, and I think her interpretation is successful. I mean, she definitely manages to give the song a distinct feel, one from her own perspective.

I would like to say a few words about what I think of Tori's vision of the song.

Now, it can be seen that she has done a few alterations to the lyrics. The most apparent change is the addition of these two lines: "I said, she said" and "(Fall onto me), Fall onto her".
In the original, the "story" is narrated from Satan's point of view, and he is the only "character". However, in Tori's version, the addition of the aforementioned lyrics suggests the introduction of a female figure to the song.
What is more, this female figure seems to share the same actions as Satan. This reminded me of a saying that goes: "Beside every successful man, there is a woman."
So, I think that's how Tori saw it. She points out that Satan was not alone in his suffering, and there is someone who shares his pain, helps him through it, and is also willing for retribution.

Within Temptation – Pearls Of Light Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with dark ivory. Basically, her fascination with the light of the morning is a metaphor for her search for good/knowledge. However, she soon learns that light can also deceive and that she should have not forgotten her roots and her instincts.

Nice song. :)

Manowar – Hail To England Lyrics 17 years ago
dodaren was obviously joking, and everyone who takes him seriously is a fool.

Anyway, with this song Manowar obviously express their respect for England. That respect rests on several reasons:

1) England is the birthplace of Heavy Metal.
2) Manowar was founded in England.

So, yeah. Basically, Manowar go to England and unite the heavy metal fans.

Iron Maiden – Journeyman Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with most of what TheJourneyman said.

Basically it's about a traveller who realises that his long journey in life will not be endless. He stops for a second and thinks about his past, especially its darker moments. Realising that his end is near, he thinks about all the things he desired and held dear. His past still haunts him, but he remembers that there was also good in his life, and it chases the dark moments away. He gives an advice: You may choose desolation, but you may also begin a journey by setting an aim for yourself.

That's my take on it. It's perfectly appliable to being a musician, like some people above stated.
