This song could be about being "pussy-whiped" as they call it. Maybe he had a mate who suggested "ill let a girl control me when hell freezes over" hence the becomming name of "a cold day in hell". His mate who said he's never let his girlfiriend control his life, then realized that he has. "now the wolves become sheep". And because he has, it's posibally a negative thing. It could posibally even be relating to marriage, and the cliche of sex ending in marriage: "everything you ever lust for will be taken". Also, a lot of typical males make comments like "it will be a cold day in hell before I get married!" Its very anrgy sounding, but that doesnt mean that it is that! |

| I think the person above said it perfectly. Its about young kids following fashion, which includes not just clothing.. but cutting and soforth. Like it's cool to be on myspace with ya "neon" clothes on from supre, but dont forget to have blood dripping from your lips like some sort of mychemical romance-style emo depressive shit. Not sure if that's what is right, but this song is tough as. I generally hate how cliche breakdowns are, but this song makes them cool. Double breakdown??? hell yeah. | |

Seriously... you guys need to take a look at what you're saying. Number one.. this is "songmeanings.com".. not "whatsemoandwhatshardcore.com". Which i hope to god doesnt actually exist. Number two.. who gives a fuck about genres? fuck it all really. If one more idiot goes "i've been into it since the start", or name drops "refused" again, im going to vomit. Fucking get a clue. Just enjoy the the songs and stop being pretentious. They should change the titles "emo/punk/hardcore/metal" to just ..."fuckwit/more pretentious than indie kid-kid music".. and just have that section in cd stores. |

Im a wannabe musician myself, and when you're trying to write songs, you can sometimes find that everything you write sounds like another song. And Dempsey had writers block in writing this album (which he states is the topic of monsters, his monsters being writers block).. this makes me think he's written a song.. about everything sounding like another song, and i think the irony of it is totally genius. Of course everything could just be taken as people being bored of life as there is nothing left to discover, like explorers have nowhere to go. But personally.. when i heard this song.. i was instantly like "fucking oath Demps!". Then i heard "Echo" by incubus, released around the same time. Quite amusing :) |

Although this song was written a long time ago, i enjoy visualizing that this was written about catie holmes dating Tom. And she's too young for his garbage. Also, saw an episode on south park where the scientologists tried to turn stan into one, telling him that he was depressed.. "i didnt know i was depressed :/ ".... lol. Maybe this song inspired that ;) |

mouth.tongue.teeth i love your post! I have had similar thoughts, but also other thoughts. I have seen it is maybe about people that are very naive about things. Messages are sent out into space in order to achieve "breakthroughs" as such, and this would be a person trying to achive this breakthrough with the person. Asking them to face up to reality, as hard as it may be. And dempsey is posibally suggesting that if the person does not being to naive then he will take it onto his own hands to make them know, which i guess is selfish. But that doesnt necesarilly mean that dempsey is selfish and forcefull. He could have written it about what a friend says about his partner. "he just cant admit it, and face that it's true"..sort of thing. You should hear this song live solo.. amazing. All the crowd sing :) |

This is probably my favorite song ever. I think it could be about how a person can be weak in the hard parts of their life, and let bullshit like sentiments control the things that really matter. Say for example, a person flipping a coin and allowing that to decide if he should .. i dont know, ask out the girl he likes. or much more important things. Then also speaks of how the person does it to suit themselves.. for example.. flipping a coin, then saying "best out of three", in a way that suits which answer they're too afraid to face. And dempsey states that once you start acting in that fashion, he cant help you, and that acting in that fashion is gutless and pathetic. |

I think it's maybe about being insecure about themselves or the relationship they are in, not that that is a necesarilly a good thing. But one person needing their partner to tell them they are loved, and testing them to see how genuine they are. And I may be wrong, but i think the real lyrics are "the lost city of you" not "last", it just sounds like last. Makes much more sense that way anyway, and dempsey's not one for imperfection in writing! |
