That bridge is beautiful lyrically... makes me love Gary even more. "And I would work until my hands bleed to feed you, because you're the well that I drink from and toss all of my wishes in." Genius. |

I believe, like the others, this is a song about people who are supposed to be close to him who doubt him and feel like he'd be better off listening to their ideals. Funny, this song not only shows how much he's grown as a writer, but it also proves all those naysayers wrong. He's done amazing for himself, and he's an uber talented and accomplished musician. |

Most of Gary's songs seem to be about either his father or failed romantic relationships, or both. It works though -- I think we can all relate in one way or another. |

Seems to be about when you truly believe you've found love, but down the line, you realize that you just aren't "enough" for each other. Slowly but surely, you drift apart. |

This song is about immortalizing a memory, or in this case a relationship, in song. Fucking great solo. :) |

This song gives me chills. Gary explained this at a show, and it's about a man they met in Phoenix. He was from, I believe, Guatemala, which means that this man had a huge impact on Gary's writing. Great song. |

To me, this is about a relationship in which one person is advancing while the other is lagging behind and comfortable in their irresponsibility and lack of growth. Why can't we stay the same for now? At an even playing field? So we are able to enjoy and not feel that one is a liability?
By the way, Gary sounds amazing.

What happened to "shameful the lust you let win"? About a father cheating on a mother, and the pain that it causes within the family. Gotta love Gary, gotta love Swift. |

Obviously about regrets. The writer took his relationship for granted and committed acts which ended it. Although he wants his lover back, he knows that his the aforementioned acts will likely never be forgiven.
This song is gorgeous, possibly the best piece musically the band has ever written (with the exception of "...Built Us A House".) |

This seems to be about a friend of the writer's that he is in love with who does not share the same feelings. This friend is also in a bad situation, which by association, the writer shares. This is about the writer's desire to save them from their troubles and be more than a friend, a lover. |

This song is about the hesitance on the other end of an old relationship to begin anew.
I have great memories slow dancing to this song at Ziggy's, despite the strange looks. |

This song is obviously about a past love coming back for forgiveness and a possible second chance. I have horrible memories of this song: as I was kicking my ex out in 2006, he "absentmindedly" sang "It's the end, it's the end, the end" because this CD was the in the player. I always think of that when I hear this song, but I still love it. Good riddance. :) |

I totally agree with you. It's about a relationship ending, and in a sketchy way. The song also indicates that the person may be losing a family type connection. "Don't brag to us anymore, we're tired of breaking your fall." God, I can relate to that. Y |

To me, this is about a father who gradually, and by deceitful means, abandons his family. He is never forthright or honest about his need to move on, and basically snubs his children in his avoidance of closure. |

To me, this is about a parent who is too self-absorbed to be involved with their child. In stead of acknowledging their own mistakes and short-comings, they blame the child. Hence, the child is left to deal with the guilt and pain of having an absent parent. |

To me, this is about mistakes made in a relationship and overcoming what was ingrained in person from the beginning about how they should approach and conduct themselves in relationships. |

This is just what I hear -- I have no liner notes, those are presumably with my ex. This seems to be about the strength of human beings when faced with oppression. Just me though. |

I think this is Gary's comment on a corrupt government, and the day when everything comes crumbling down (martial law). Love this song, riffs are amazing. |
