This song is saying that all the pain we go through is, unfortunately, part of life. And although we'd just like to fast-foward through all those hard times, the reality is we just have to sit and wait for them to pass. It also addresses all the complaints that people have; it seems nobody is ever satisfyed. ("Well we've got the land, but they've got the view.")
I like this song... I do think that it is one of the more pop-influenced modest mouse songs, but it's still a pretty solid song in my opinion. |

this song suggests what a corrupt place the world is turning into. in a sense, i also agree that it was also meant to raise environmental awareness, but not in a straight-foward kind of way.
i greatly admire ben gibbard- i'm fully convinced that he is basically a lyrical genius. he has a way of finding the perfect words to describe specific feelings and emotions that i would otherwise find ineffable. im mainly a fan of death cab for cutie, but i think this is a great side-project for ben. i like how he adds an electronic twist onto the kind of songs he's used to doing. i have nothing but respect for the man.
i'd love to see more from postal service. |

You guys basically nailed it... I couldn't agree more that "haunting" is the perfect word to describe this song, not to mention countless other songs by radiohead.
as much as i love radiohead, all of their songs put me in a bit of a depressive mood, or a daze. |

I. LOVE. THIS. SONG. It's so heartbreaking... it's like suicide put to music. But I can't get enough of it (and love to sing it in the shower). The falsetto on the line "she run, run, runs..." is striking.
I do think that this is a song that everyone can relate to at some point in there lives. |

such a great song. it makes me feel like i'm underwater when i listen to it... in my own little world. i just love the way the song sounds, simple as that. this song is also very sexy, the way the words aren't exactly sung, they're whispered and muffled. |

i think this song is pretty awesome... i dont think there are any metaphors or anything of the sort in this song, i think this is just meant to be a good song to jump around to.

| Death Cab for Cutie – This Temporary Life Lyrics

This song gets to me every time... This is actually one of my favorite songs my death cab, even though it isn't from one of their original albums. This is a completely accurate description of how I imagine it would feel permanently leaving home for the first time. No matter who you are, complete lonliness and isolation does not feel good. We all need some sort of human relationship- another person we can share our thoughts, opinions, and emotions with. This song is about lonliness in its greatest form. Also, I think this song suggests that it is human nature to be selfish in that once we are out of sight, even our own friends eventually stop thinking about us- they don't completely forget we existed, but as soon as we're gone, we are no longer one of their priorities. They may call us up once a year around the holidays to wish us a safe one, but the sad truth is that most likely the other 364 days of the year, they are not thinking about us. Selfishness. They have their own lives to worry about. Eventually, they'll stop calling alltogether- even around the holidays. This song lures out many emotions that I have buried in me. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Your New Twin Sized Bed Lyrics

i think that the meaning of this song is pretty straight-foward:
first of all i think that ben is singing this either about or directly to a female, i don't think he's writing about himself. said female is getting rid of her old queen matress because she no longer needs the extra space for another person in the bed because she has given up on love. Simply put, she is now sleeping on a twin sized bed because she is all alone. |

my absolute favorite things about this song all lie in the instrumentals. the things i've fallen in love with:
a. the scratching sound of the guitar chopping at the very beginning of the song.
b. what an amazing guitar line.
c. as ben sings the lines "as the flashbulbs burst she holds a smile like someone would hold a crying child," listen carefully for the awesome bass playing in the background. this isnt the only part of the song with great bass, but for some reason it gets to me |

agreed that this song is about going back home. also agreed that this is a good driving song. this song makes me want to go to bellingham. i mean, bellingham is not my hometown so i probably would not experience the same feelings, but ben has done such a great job at capturing the feelings brought on by certain places or events that i can relate to in death cab's other songs that i cant help but be a bit interested in how well he captured the feeling of this town. i know this comment may sound stupid, but it makes perfect sense in my mind ;) |

i am such a fan of deah cab that its hard for me to pick just one favorite song, but this one would definitely have to be up there on the list. ben uses such descriptive imagery. this song also has a great use of the senses. it is one of death cab's shorter pieces, but i think that gives it even more of an impact. 3 minutes of simple yet beautiful piano, such a great arrangement of words. my favorite lines in the song are "then looking upwards i strain my eyes and try to tell the difference between shooting stars and satellites" & "with my feet on the dash, the world doesnt matter." i especially love the way ben says the word "matter" in that breathy way. even though the melody of the piano is so sad sounding, the beautiful lyrics and tone of ben's voice give me a quiet feeling of happiness and serenity whenever i listen. i can imagine myself in that moment of pure appreciation for the relationship between human and human, and between human and the world surrounding us. i just get caught up... |

| Jonas Brothers – S.O.S. Lyrics

the jonas brothers are a dissapointment to the world of music. they're nothing but whiney, love-struck teenage boys whose parents just happened to get them into showbusiness. and now they have the hearts of millions of hollow-headed preteen and teenage girls. |
