As a 'fortunate fool' myself, the song and the posts do not offend. I willingly choose to be a fortunate fool. When I start to realize my intelligence and profess it to my friends, etc, it is depressing that even my knowledge cannot better my own world. So I come up with definitions and reasons for everything, become a philosopher of sorts. My philosophy on life protects me from the pains of the world and its suffering. My naivety saves me from a deep and dark depression that feels no different from concrete blocks compressing my lungs and sucking the life out of me. I sometimes fall into my intelligence, but my intelligence pulls me out of it by positive and hopeful thoughts. In describing things that I am not completely familiar with, I also stumble over my words. As with anything unfamiliar, I am not able to put together the critical words that would intelligently describe my experiences. And my perfectionism keeps me from telling that which I am not familiar with. And I have created a world such that everything falls into place, I have 'found myself.' In my world, there are reasons for all things that are not right such that they become 'right' in their own sense. It makes life such a perfect life when nothing is really wrong except for life itself. |

The girl in the song is bothered by something, but the singer knows that it isn't worth his time to listen to her story. He knows that a relationship won't work, but she is still able to seduce him when she likes. "Watching her shoulders" - I think that someone is out to find her, and she is watching her back. It could either be a current or ex-lover. "Fall back on reasons that we know won't stand a chance" - She is searching for a love with the wrong reasons. Sounds like she is very inconfident, jumping from one guy to the next with wrong reasons for loving them. And even when people told the singer not to get involved with her and her emotions, he takes her for who she is to give her a chance. He knows that her desperation is played with lots of men, and that it will not work with him either. |
