| Fall Out Boy – My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light 'Em Up) Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I think this song is about being cheated on. I mean what else could get the guy so wound up? (Be careful making wishes in the dark Can't be sure when they've hit their mark) the same old adage; be careful what you wish for. Maybe he was bored and wanted some drama in his life? (Besides, in the meantime I'm just dreaming of tearing you apart) He's obviously pissed off at the person he's singing to. He's hurt, he's angry.. (I'm in the details with the devil) in the details, isn't that how one figures out their lover is hooking up behind their back? (You know the world can't ever get me on my level I just got to get you out the cage On my own, lovers' rage God, I need a spark to ignite) Here he's just pissed off. The anger in the first verse is tangible! The world can't get me cuz I'm too hurt, too awesome for them to understand what I'm going through. I'm on my own in this and I've got a lover's rage built up in side me that all I need is a spark to just blow up. Just one word and I'll tear you apart. So light me up! (My songs know what you did in the dark So light 'em up-up-up I'm on fire) My songs (and myself being the writer of those songs) know what you've been doing behind my back. The dark is kinda a euphemism for hiding so you can do something wrong, like cheat. (The writers keep writing what they write Somewhere another pretty vein just dies) People/writers will do their thing, they'll try to make me (and others who have been hurt by someone they loves and trusted) understand, so somewhere someone takes their own life so they don't have to face up to this pain. (I've got the scars from tomorrow and I wish you could see That you're the antidote to everything except for me) Here he's pointing out that he sees his future as one of those pretty veins, he can already see the scars and wishes she could see what she has done to him. How she may able to solve any problem in the world, except for him. The disease/poison can never be its own antidote. So regardless of how good she is, she can't help him. (A constellation of tears on your lashes Burn everything you love then burn the ashes In the end everything collides My childhood spat back out the monster that you see) This is definitely my favorite part of the song. He's basically facing her with what she's done, and so she cries. He likens her tears to constellations. Though she has hurt him, her tears are still as precious as stars (this only goes to show you how much he loved her) but just like shooting stars hitting the earth, her tears burn everything she loves (even though she cheated on him he still thinks she loves him) but he can't be with her for she has burned down everything they ever had between them and then some (the ashes). In the end the truth must come out, 'everything collides' and so must we. Then he reminds her that he had a very tough person, a monster who is so angry and hurtful, a monster that doesn't care about the tears you shed. and then the chorus repeats. :) I don't know. Honestly I've never been cheated on, but the context just fit like the pieces of a puzzle in my head. I mean the song is so full of anger and hate at everything in the world, and I imagine that that's how someone who found out that the person he loves has been doing behind his back or as he puts it: 'in the dark' would feel. What do you guys think? |
