Electric Wizard – Torquemada '71 Lyrics 15 years ago
It's obviously about Countess Elizabeth Bathory, stated clearly in the lyrics. Allegedly tortured and killed nearly 650 young women to bathe in their blood. Pretty cool shit.

I'm pretty sure it's

"It's just not enough, I've already sold my soul"

But I can't be sure.

The Presidents of the United States of America – Peaches Lyrics 16 years ago
So what, you think "Well I didn't read it" is a valid argument? Since when is ignorance and apathy a valid argument against anything? I don't even agree with it, but I read it. You're a horrible person.

16 Volt – Therapy Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm forced to assume it's a direct reference to the Veitnam war, or more directly, the people who came back from that war with a scared psyche.

Both the lyrical content, and the Asia-pacific sounding ambiance solo seen in certain parts of the song tell me this is likely the case.

Tool – H. Lyrics 17 years ago
I'll say again, this isn't about Heroin. Mild experience with Tool will show you that, just as in Stinkfist and many other songs, you can either lose meaning and take it literally, or take it metaphorically and gain a deeper understanding of the lyrics. Literally, yes, it could be interpretated as being about Heroin; but anyone can take a Tool song literally, but it's far more enjoyable if you derive your own metaphorical meanings to the song.

Tool – H. Lyrics 17 years ago
I respectfully disagree with Madson's explanation.

And I completely denounce all the "It's about Heroin" answers.

While, yes, the song could be literally interpreted as being about Heroin, but listening to Tool should tell you that while, literally, a lot of the lyrics are about simple things, you should never, ever, take their lyrics literally. It always has some kind of abstract meaning.

I think it has to do about being hurt my someone, and closing yourself off to being hurt again by anyone else. I think it has to do with being hurt, and expecting to be hurt or harmed again by someone else, even if your instincts tell you to give them a chance,

'My blood before me begs me
Open up my heart again
And I feel this coming over like a storm again'

I think the song tells two stories in a mixed up order. It both reconnects with the past experience of being hurt,

'I am too connected to you to
Slip away, to fade away
Days away I still feel you
Touching me, changing me,
And considerately killing me
And considerately killing me
And considerately killing me
And considerately killing me'

and also tells a story about how that has shaped and affected his ability to open up to another person, or even that very same person for a second chance,

'And as the walls come down and
As I look in your eyes
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of the times
I have died
and will die
It's all right
I don't mind
I don't mind
I don't mind'

But that's just my own personal interpretation of the song. I find Tool is the best when you look to your own interpretation, not those of other people.

Muse – Bliss Lyrics 17 years ago
Well from my experience, I noticed the song immediately as relating to Liz Hodgkinson's book and opinions on "Obsessive Love".

"Everything about you is how I want to be
your freedom comes naturally
Everything about you resonates happiness
now I won't settle for less"

Which relates to her reasoning that, when someone has fallen obsessively in love with someone, the person generally has attributes or personality traits that they want for themselves.

The thing about Obsessive Love, is that the person believes (which in turn makes it true, for them) that they cannot be happy without the companionship of the object of there love, and this can tragically lead to suicide, rape, stalking, etc, which both due to the content, and the way he sings it, relates closely to;

"Give me all the peace and joy in your mind
I want the peace and joy in your mind
Give me the peace and joy in your mind"

Basically the whole song, from my understanding, seems to relate to this. However it only seems to touch on a small amount of the factors revolving around obsessive love, and leaves out other stages/symptoms, so I can't tell.
