pour a little salt, we were never here i know, not another interpretation but i had to throw in my two cents. if the song is about coming to terms with a relationship you never wanted to end but it was going to no matter what, then the salt might be just a means of covering the bitterness. you add salt to a meal to make it taste better. well when he says 'come on skinny love just last the year, pour a little salt we were never here' its like he's trying to keep the relationship going. adding a little salt to mask the problems, 'we were never here' i don't know. but what i do know is that i heard this song at the end of an episode of "chuck" where chuck is basically telling the girl of his dreams that even though she's everything he could ever hope for, it would never work for them. seemed to fit after i read the lyrics.... |

i always thought he said "she's" not "it's" as in "she's just the one that i had, she's just the one for me tonight" i mean its still awesome, i'm just saying |

i think this song's about death. it's a bad thought. he doesn't wanna think about it but since its everywhere he goes he can't stop thinking about it. and he isn't sure what to think. he gets so many different answers from so many people. he trys to clear his head by asking and he gets filled with more questions, no answers. he doesn't know where he's headed and at this point he doesn't care. at least he trys not to care but his heart won't let him. he keeps thinking about it like long stairs and his weak heart of a brain can't handle it. so he heads to a place he calls home, looking maybe for comfort. and he finds the scavengers in a constant struggle. he finds more people have moved on and new people have shown up. "torn one down, and erected another". he's just having such depressing thoughts. and his heart's like a bitter buffalo. which is also a contrast, just like everything in this song. he can't stop thinking about where he's to end up and because of that years speed by but the days just feel like they never end... just a thought, it could have really several references to anything that he might find depressing. i just kinda figured death because of the line "on my way to god don't know" |

i don't know. it doesn't seem to me like its that deep. just sounds like another teen angst song about how he stands out from the crowd and how they're just trying to suck him in, gnaw holes through his flawless soul. make him conform. drown in their oblivion. he gets angry, yadi-yadi-yada and you have a pretty awesome song... the totallymortal-totalimmortal thing is pretty cool but personally i think for the most part its the music that makes this song rock so beautifully...not the meaning behind it... |

| i agree hester. the words maybe do imply some deeper underlying meanings but for the most part it all ties in with the pheonix theater and we of the 707 will probably be the only one's to know that...which is kinda cool | |
