Dolly Parton – D.I.V.O.R.C.E. Lyrics 17 years ago
She still loves the man, and their little boy is the only thing they share now.
Her pain is so strong that she can't spell it out or brush it under the carpet, so to speak. "...I can't spell away this hurt that's dripping down my cheek." She can't hold back the tears, but she needs to be strong for her little boy.

Frou Frou – It's Good to Be in Love Lyrics 17 years ago
I think that she used to be in a relationship with a man she loved, but it didn't work out and he is with someone else- and she still loves him. She tried to put on a front and pretend she is happy for him, but she doesn't feel it. "The more that I smile about it... and all of my clothes feel like somebody's old throwaways." "I don't like it"- she hates lying and pretending. It doesn't suit her.

She's feeling out of control and she hates it- "why's it happening? I feel so powerless...oh, come on, what can I do?"
She's still trying to adjust to him being happy with someone else instead of her- "how's it happening that he feels without me?"

Clear contrasts in feeling associated with appearance- "you're do beautiful, I'm black and blue all over." He's happy, he looks great- "every colour goes where you do." She's distraught and hurting- "black and blue."

Joni Mitchell – A Case Of You Lyrics 17 years ago
I think she is in love and hurting, because the man she is singing about is emotionally distant ("constantly in the darkness... If you want me, I'll be in the bar.") Maybe the references to wine and the bar are suggestive of the problem being that he is an alcoholic. She cannot leave and stop loving him- "you're in my blood like holy wine." He is part of her, in her blood and she cannot stop that showing- "part of you pours out of me in these lines, from time to time."

Alanis Morissette – Head Over Feet Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about a woman who has not been treated very well in relationships in the past, and is now being treated, well... like a princess! "You treat me like a princess, I'm not used to liking that."
It sounds like she had inhibitions about falling in love, but has done so and surprised herself by it. "You've already won me over, in spite of me." It also sounds like it took her a while to fall in love with them, maybe for trust issues, but they were determined- ("your love is thick, and it swallowed me whole." and "thanks for your patience.").

Evanescence – Good Enough Lyrics 17 years ago
I think she is absolutely infatuated with someone, and he knows it. She's 'under their spell', absoluely transfixed and would do anything for them. Like 'inlovewithamy' said, that feeling doesn't last and I think she's happy to be so in love at that point. I think I can maybe relate.

Evanescence – Give Unto Me Lyrics 17 years ago
There are many interpretations if this song that I feel are very accurate. I think that she is in love with someone, or has a very close friend that is grieving over lost love or a death and she cannot bear to see them in such pain. I think she feels powerless, but would do anything to take their pain away.

The Smiths – There Is a Light That Never Goes Out Lyrics 17 years ago
I think that he craves excitement in this song- and she gives it to him. He wants to feel alive, yet he'd happily die with her. It sounds like he does not want to go back to reality, where things are far from perfect.

Alanis Morissette – Hands Clean Lyrics 17 years ago
Alanis is said to have had an affair with a 30 year old guy when she was a mere 14, and I think she wrote this almost in his point of view. I think she is quite bitter and almost feels he has taken advantage of her, due to him knowing how she felt about him. "I know you sexualize me like a young thing and I think I like it." Some bits I think sound a bit harsh, like 'if it weren't for my attention, you wouldn't have become successful and if it weren't for me, you wouldn't have amounted to very much."

I think Alanis feels he took advantage of her, because she really liked him, and he asks her not to tell her family- he knows it would be viewed as wrong.
