I think musicians should keep their political agenda's to themselves or else their art becomes nothing more than propoganda.
Anyways, I didn't see it as being about a specific person, but about abuse of power in general. When listening to it during the Bush admin it could easily be applied to him and now I apply it to Obama and it fits. |

The song is about Cary Stayner. His brother, Steven Stayner, was kidnapped when he was a kid, found when he was in his teens and died in a car accident a few yrs later. Cary Stayner was working in a national park (not sure which one) when he kidnapped a woman, her daughter and her daughter's friend from their hotel room, raped and murdered them in the park. |

I always kind of figured Daniel was a Viet Nam veteran...I don't think that when he said, "Your eyes have died" that he meant Daniel had died, but that he'd seen so much horror in Viet Nam, that he feels dead inside...and maybe he isn't really going to Spain, but faraway to a place very foreign to his brotherbecause it's too hard for him to be around his family and pretend he is the same person as before...Anyways, it's a great song! :) |
