the whole of 'A sky of honey' just epitomises the beautiful, long English summer evening to me. By the coast or in the countryside you can feel the special quality of the light and hear the birdsong that is so obvious in summer. Beautiful. |

I saw it as a Jolene style song: Karen loves this guy but Precilla has the capacity to take him away from her. On reflection, the road trip and Precilla Queen of the Desert aspects are also appealing. |

I figure you have to accept what Nigel says and admit this song wasn't necessarily written about the Libertines, but it sure as fuck applies to them. I did indeed spend £14 on their second album, and yes, I may as well have stuck my head in a bucket full of porridge and moaned about the hospital parking system. Oh the enlightenment I underwent upon hearing Achtung Bono... |

Seen the Youtube video Eraserhead tribute? Brilliant.
Plus I thought it was 'milky drink and soon to bed', but on reflection evilnick's corrections seem to be correct. |

the_commander: is it really worth criticising other HMHB fans? There aren't enough of us as it is, and just because someone knows how to spell words of more than two-syllables doesn't make them upper class. In addition, just because they're upper class doesn't make them twats (to clarify I am Irish/Mancunian and as far away from upper class as you can get without being a chav). But I agree, the 'If I were a linesman...' is an essential part of the song. |

I love the way this song seems to combine so many other folk tales: the shapeshifting of Reynardine and Mad Suibne/Sweeny plus certain aspects of Tam Lin and the descriptions of insanity through nature. It is truly a gorgeous amalgamation of old tales into one beautifully told 'new' folk tale. All hail Sandy for doing it such justice. |
