| On the DVD, John introduces this song by saying, "So this is a song that I wrote a long time ago and it kind of fell out of fashion with me and then it kind of has fallen back into fashion with me a bit." This song is different from the original version in that he adds the last two paragraphs of lyrics to this version. The original version is said to be about Jennifer Love Hewitt. He performed this on December 8, 2007 and less than a week before it was announced that she was engaged to Scottish actor Ross McCall. This song could just as easily, however, resonate with him about dating Jessica Simpson. They had broken up in May of that same year. While I like to focus on John's career and avoid the tabloid BS, there's something very endearing about sending that message to someone he loved. Break ups can be strange for all of us and imagine if every time you saw a magazine at the grocery store, you saw your ex on it living their new life. Must be an odd mix of feeling disconnected and yet still connected. I'd write a song about it too! :) | |
