| To me this song is about a kind of a drug-addled, southern Joan of Arc like figure. There's the image of the cross and her not knowing any lovers (her virginity/purity) and of course talking to angels is more or less hearing voices. But she's like this dark, addicted, sort of southern gothic joan of arc. This song always makes me think of an old girlfriend back in Alabama. | |

This song is super good. I listen to it often in the car on the way home from work. Anyway, my favorite line is "the scent of you sweating smells good to me." I guess there's a biological basis for finding something appealing in the scent of the opposite sex's perspiring, but it reminds me of my ex-girlfriend, and confronting her after she had been doing cocaine and was en route to rehab. She'd been sweating from the coke-induced tension i guess, and i remember thinking afterwards that it smelled sweet, and kind of good. |

This is by far the best Feelies song, in my humble opinion, and it's shocking no one has commented, although i guess realistically no one really listens to the Feelies. Anyway, I like to think this is about his lefty girlfriend who has always dreamt idealistic dreams of life in the USSR and thinks it's time to move there, with or without him. And so he's thinking back, reflecting on what it would be like if he could visit almost as in a dream, and if it would be at all like she said... my favorite lines: And I think about what it might be like If I could go alone, if I could go at night Would it be just like you know you said it would Would it start the life aglow |
