I think that John is such an abstract writer that his lyrics can mean whatever the listener wants them to mean, therefore there are so many opinions on what they really DO mean. Like the last part is my favorite, "I think about you all the time, but I don't need the same.." It makes me think about my dad, he passed away when I was 12 and he wasn't a very good dad at all but I still loved him, I think about him all the time but I don't need to make the same mistakes as he did. And John's dad died from being an alcoholic when he was young so it'd pretty cool if that's what he meant by it. |

This song is absolutely amazing. I first heard this song when one of the greatest periods of my life was coming to an end and I knew there was nothing I could do to prevent it. It makes me cry nearly every time I hear it. It just makes me not want to take anything for granted anymore.. |
