"If I'm to fall Would you be there to applaud Or would you hide behind them all" I thought of a better way to describe the impression I get from that line. It's like it's no longer just two brothers and one is making fun of the other, which is alright because that's what brothers do and it means they've got a certain closeness. But that relationship becomes polluted by all of the world that is now a part of it. So it's not just two brothers in a room, one making fun of the other for failing, now it's like it's one brother and the whole world making fun of the other. And I don't even mean it's like they're ganging up on him, but it's like there isn't that close private relationship between them, there are crowds of people invloved. That's the image I get from that line anyway. |

"If I'm to fall Would you be there to applaud Or would you hide behind them all" There's a great imagery with that line. I think both are negative. Either you're there applauding, happy that I failed; or you're part of a crowd laughing at me for failing. Great line, maybe directed at Noel? |

| Metallica – The Day That Never Comes Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think it's important that in the lyrics that come with the CD it's: SONshine never comes. When I read these lyrics what jumped out at me, like a lot of people here was an abusive relationship as well. But an abusive relationship in which the wife is waiting for the day when her son will be able to protect her? "God I'll make them pay take it back one day I'll end this day I'll splatter color on this gray" To me that's the son talking, along with the outro: This I Swear etc. |

| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Don't Forget Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I'd always thought that this song was from the point of view of a drug, talking to an addict who is either recovering or considering quitting the habit. I'm an ocean in your bedroom Make you feel warm Make you want to re-assume Now we know it all for sure (This is obvious, the good feelings that drugs bring about, the self-confidence. Makes you want to re-assume, rethink your values in life.) I'm a dance hall dirty breakbeat Make the snow fall Up from underneath your feet Not alone, I'll be there Tell me when you want to go (Last two lines, referring to the person being able to shoot up whenever they want to feel better. Snow falling up from underneath your feet, perhaps the mind altering qualities of drugs.) I'm a meth lab first rehab Take it all off And step inside the running cab There's a love that knows the way (Not sure what to make of this, maybe someone turning to meth after trying to quit. Causing them to do something like getting naked and walking into a car.) I'm the rainbow in your jail cell All the memories of Everything you've ever smelled Not alone, I'll be there Tell me when you want to go (Again the comfort drugs can bring. All the memories of everything you ever smelled, all the good that you remember is associated with the drugs.) Sideways falling More will be revealed my friend Don't forget me I can't hide it Come again make me excited (Sideways falling, maybe referring to the state of being an addict, it feeling good but actually being detrimental, so falling sideways. Come again and make me excited, pretty obvious, maybe from the addict's point of view now.) I'm an inbred and a pothead Two legs that you spread Inside the tool shed Now we know it all for sure (Not sure how to make this verse fit in.) I could show you To the free field Overcome and more Will always be revealed Not alone, I'll be there Tell me when you want to go (Again, the things drugs can do for you.) I'm the bloodstain On your shirt sleeve Coming down and more are coming to believe Now we know it all for sure (First two lines can be taken quite literally. The third, the admittance from the drug that it is bringing you down, and that more and more people are traveling down that path.) Make the hair stand Up on your arm Teach you how to dance Inside the funny farm Not alone, I'll be there Tell me when you want to go (Again first two very literal, then the next two perhaps about how the drug can make you comfortable doing things that you wouldn't do normally.) I'm not saying that this is what they intended, I'd just always thought about it in this way and wanted to share that. Fantastic song either way. |
