Ingrid Michaelson – Mosquito Lyrics 15 years ago
Personally, I think it could be looked at from the perspective of someone being stalked. Lines such as "How can I truly be angry with you? All you want is to be part of me," for example. Stalkers obsess and fixate over their "prey," the person they want nothing more than to be with. It consumes them. Much like Mosquitos, they feed off of the person they're fixated with (well, in a metaphorical sense, anyway).

Also, her reference to poison could be looked at in two ways. First, the stalker poisoning the victim. Victims of stalking become consumed by fear. Constantly worrying that the stalker is close by, when the next phone call will be, what information they found out on them, etc...It's like a poison to them because of the negative feelings associated with it, as well as the frequency.

Or, it could be the victim poisoning the stalker. The stalker could be so overwhelmed with the need to be with or near to this person that it drives them completely mad. Thinking day in and day out, about this one person in particular that they start to doubt their sanity or what they might possibly be capable of doing. Just a burning desire to be in someone's life and want nothing else. That could be the stalker's poison.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents.

Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová – Alone Apart Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't know if anyone else might feel this way, but when I hear this song, I think of my weaker, vulnerable, side/the little girl side of myself having a conversation with the more mature, wise, strong side of myself. And this paragraph really hits me the hardest:

"How many times have i hurt you
And how many times have you
And how many times I'd been on my knees
Begging, begging "please forgive me, forgive me"

When I hear that, it sort of makes me think of my weaker side apologizing to myself/the stronger side. Sort of like I'm saying "I'm sorry for hurting you when I know you deserve so much more. I'm sorry for treating you badly. Forgive me".

And in the last line:

"And I couldn't see how you're trying for me"

It makes me think of the little girl saying to the adult in me that "I couldn't see how strong you're trying to be. How you're trying to save me, protect me, get me to realize that you're rooting for me because you're worth more and need to understand that. Learn to love yourself".

Anyway, that's just how I see it. Great song. Very touching and haunting.

Alanis Morissette – Not As We Lyrics 17 years ago
"If God is taking bets
I pray he wants to lose..."

You know how people say that with God you can do anything or don't lose faith and you'll get through it? Well, I think maybe that's what the first part means. Maybe she's saying that God will help her get through it, that he KNOWS she'll get through it and he's in a way saying "wanna bet?" cause he knows everything right? He knows she'll get through this too.

When she says "I pray he wants to lose", I think she's saying that she feels like she won't ever get through this pain and she's saying to God "You're wrong/you're gonna lose this bet because I don't think I can make it".

Anyway, that's just how I viewed it. Sorry if it didn't make sense.

Beautiful song!

Sia – Don't Bring Me Down Lyrics 17 years ago
For me, when she starts singing "Don't bring me down...", it makes me think of someone who is bipolar and is coming off of a manic episode and doesn't want to. It's kind of like they're saying to their emotions or moods or whatever "Don't bring me down, I won't let you".

Plumb – Cut Lyrics 17 years ago
I believe this song is obviously, about cutting. But I also think it's about being molested. For example, when she says "I'm not a stranger
No I am yours
With crippled anger
And tears that still drip sore
A fragile frame aged
With Misery"

it's like she's talking to whoever molested her. "I'm not a stranger, no I am your's", meaning that she is their flesh and blood. "A fragile frame aged with misery" meaning she went through hell and was "tainted" in a way when she was younger.

Obviously, she cut herself to make the pain kind of disappear. If you notice, at the end, she says "I WAS cut", meaning that she's starting to heal internally I guess.

"I do not wanna be afraid
I do not wanna die inside just to breathe in". I love these two lines. Very deep. When she says " I do not want to die inside just to breathe in", I think she's saying "I don't want to feel dead inside and like I'm just going through the motion of living just so I can take a breath everyday".

When she says "I am not alone", I believe that she is referring to God and Jesus. Meaning that they've been with her through everything and always will be. It could also mean that others have been in the same situation that she's been in.

I love this song. Heart wrenching, but beautiful.

Sarah McLachlan – Answer Lyrics 17 years ago
I think, if you listen to it closely enough, maybe it's about a relationship with God? In her first paragraph or whatever, maybe she's singing from the perspective of God and Jesus. For example, "I will be the answer at the end of the line.
I will be there for you while you take the time.
In the burning of uncertainty, I will be your solid ground.
I will hold the balance if you can't look down."

And maybe when she says "Cast me gently into morning, for the night has been unkind.
Take me to a place so holy, that I can wash this from my mind...
The memory of choosing not to fight." She's praying to him to give her a sense of peace, or to help her through hard times. Don't know if that's correct, But that's the great thing about music. It has different meanings for everyone.

Plumb – Pennyless Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with all of you. Like you all said, I think it's about someone not liking who they are as a person. In the line "Hoping that she'll get out of wonderland", I'm thinking it could mean "when will things make sense?" Or when will I not feel so lost anymore?" It's obvious that the girl in the song cuts herself, maybe she hates herself for doing it?

I think it's very easy for people to identify with this song. Everyone has had times when they don't like themselves and they wonder when things will get better and they won't feel so lost/when they'll get out of this "wonderland".

Great song.

Sia – Breathe Me Lyrics 17 years ago
For me personally, I think it could be about mental illness or just feeling confused or "lost" as a person.

Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame

Ouch I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found,
Yeah I think that I might break
I've lost myself again and I feel unsafe

These 2 verses really speak to me. I have a few mental illnesses and a lot of days I always feel like part of me is lost, like I never know who I really am. Everything tends to come down around me all at once and I feel "unsafe". I think she just wants someone to protect her and just be there for her to let her know everything will be ok.

Ashlee Simpson – Never Dream Alone Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song. I play it 24/7, lol. I personally really like the part that goes "You're the only one who knows how to wake me", I think that's beautiful. To me, it sounds like she's saying that they're the only person who can really make her feel alive and stir all these emotions inside of her.
