| Rise Against – State Of The Union Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this song actually is about the war. tim usually introduces this song during their live shows with a line like: "this is a big fuck you to george fucking bush and his fucking war." so there's very little debating that one :P | |

| i don't have an opinion on what this song could man, but it's an awesome song. anyway the real reason i'm posting is that the line you put as "the hurt we feel we all have found" is wrong. it should be "the hurt we feel we all have earned" | |

i think this song is about a soldier fighting a war overseas and is on his last day of his visit home and is spending it with his wife/girlfriend. the first verse is where he's on the plane going home. he's staring at his hands that are shaking from everything he's been through, his eyes are bloodshot because he can't sleep much on the battlefield, and he's worried that his girlfriend didn't wait for him and ran off with someone else, so he's asking himnself if she'll be there waiting for him. chorus: he travelled in etaphoric darkness, probably meaning the battlefield for what seemed like forever and felt began to collapse under the pressure of constant war. he doesn't know what's been going on with his girlfriend overseas, but he knows what he's been through himself. 2nd verse: he's telling her stories of the war, how he felt at ease when day broke, maybe he got off and was aloud to rest at his own base. the language universal is war because everyone fights, but he forgets how to speak it because he's with her. and then he asks her to stay with him until he has to leave for war again. 3rd verse: he's talking about how they might wake up the next day and have lost the war, and he would do everything to prevent that from happening to her. then he says that he and his countries army will work hard, and get dirty for the people who live in the country. |

i don't deny that this song is probably about a breakup, but it could have a deeper meaning because it also fit global warming, which is more what the band is about. "This place rings with echoes of Lives once lived but now are lost Time spent wondering about tomorrow" this could be about how we wondered for years if we could get away with using our natural resources for so long. "I don’t care if we lose it all tonight Up in flames, burning bright Warming the air of the world" how we use so much fossil fuel. we don't care if we use a lot of it because we assume it will always be there, so we essentially don't care if we lose it all "tonight". then it says how we burn it all the time with our cars (up in flames burning bright) which is causing the greenhouse effect (warming the air of the world) “I don’t love you anymore” is all I remember you telling me Never have I felt so cold I have no more blood to bleed As my heart has been draining into the sea" ice age? "Since I’ve taken your footsteps Getting me closer to what is left Of the dreams of what I once claimed to know" since everyone started following everyone else with burning gas etc. they're getting closer to the last reservoir of gas or "what is left" Within my bones this resonates Boiling blood will circulate Could you tell me again what you did this for? from the Earth's perspective. within my bones (underground) this resonates (oil drilling, mineral mining etc). boiling blood is the warming oceans and the melting ice caps circulating with the currents. asking why we abused the resources Still I wait With a hope inside of me (inside of me) So still (so still) I wait (I wait) Until again we meet Until again we meet that spot actually should say WITHOUT hope inside of me. it means the earth is just waiting for us to stop. it's waiting without anymore resources for us (hope for us). ya so that's pretty much all of the lyrics. tell me what you think |
