Kid Cudi – Soundtrack 2 My Life Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with amw1978. The first two verses are great, but besides "Ignorance is love, and I need that shit" and "I am happy, that's just the saddest lie" the third verse isn't all the impressive after seeing how good he can really be on the rest of the album.

Ben Folds – Zak And Sara Lyrics 16 years ago
Quoting Ben...

I was thinking of these kids growing up in the Midwest. A 16 year old boy plays guitar and his girlfriend has to sit and watch him play all day. She just buzzes there and listens like she had nothing better to do. Maybe the girl is also writing songs and she has this idea in her of music that will happen in 20 years time. She really has some good ideas. But she is not saying anything, cause she is supposed to listen to her boyfriend. And he is playing music that was written 20 years ago."

"I remember going to music stores when I was in high school, and there was always some guy playing guitar while his poor girlfriend had to sit on the amp and watch his dumb ass for two hours. And I thought, 'Man, I would never do that to my girlfriend.' And that's the basis of the song. There's probably something wrong with Sara. At the same time, she's seeing some truth. There's no truth coming out of Zak. Sara's a little crazy, but she's having visions of techno music in the future. And she's sitting there inventing techno while Zak's playing 'Dust in the Wind.'"

Gym Class Heroes – Peace Sign/Index Down (feat. Busta Rhymes) Lyrics 17 years ago
at first i didn't get what the title was talking about till i realized they meant index finger. so put up the peace sign then put your index finger down. i have to agree this isn't as great, lyrically, as their older stuff but it doesn't completely disappoint and it is still steps ahead of most mainstream hip hop.

MGMT – Time to Pretend Lyrics 17 years ago
even though in the video, they take acid, I don't think they're referencing themselves in this song. i think the whole song is a kind of tongue-in-cheek poke at rock bands and rock-stars. they're kind of making fun of all the drugged up rockers and such because they all practically do it. like their to-do list is: 1. Get Famous, 2. Do Drugs, 3. Get A Hot Wife, 4. Divorce, 5. Go on a concert tour of Japan. i think they're saying that you don't actually need to do that to be good. all these people do the drugs because they think it's practically what's expected of them. they all pretend that they're happy and popular enjoying what they're doing, but they're just pretending. in the song, they talk about getting a divorce (which would happen when the band becomes un-popular). when they say "choke on our vomit, and that will be the end" they're talking about how not many people will miss these drugged up rockers after they're gone. they're are just so many druggy bands out there that we've become accustomed to this stuff.

Vampire Weekend – I Stand Corrected Lyrics 17 years ago
this song is a somewhat desperate ultimatum. the beginning of the song is the beginning of the relationship where he likes her so much he just wants her nagging "You've been checking on my facts" to end "I admit I have been lax." He's just saying that to get her off his back so he can focus on her qualities that he likes. The second verse is the middle of the relationship and by now he is brainwashed to this woman. Her constant nagging and nitpicking have left him an unconfident wreck. The first line he points out her own shortcomings ("No one cares when you are wrong"), but then is immediately punished for going against her will because in the next lines he is apologizing for it and placing all the blame on himself (saying it's his fault for causing tension and by now they should be in perfect harmony). The last verse is the end of the relationship. Apparently in the time between the second and last verses, the singer has grown a backbone. Its obvious he likes this woman, but her annoying nagging quality overpowers his feelings for her. This last verse is one of the most meaningful in the song.

"Lord knows I haven't tried" = He's tried his best to keep the relationship together and learn to deal with her bad qualities

"I'll take my stand, One last time" = He's finally had enough, ultimatum time. It's either stop her nagging or he's gone

"Forget the protocol
I'll take your hand
Right in mine" = This is what he hopes will happen. That for once she'll stop judging and correcting him and they can just forget all the rules and bindings of their relationship and simply be themselves. It's clear the singer still wants the relationship to work, but were not quite sure how it ends. Personally, I think he breaks up with her because of that final "I stand corrected" line at the end, which kind of is the sad line from earlier.
