I agree with erebelwen921 i think she was being very sarcastic, seems like she got a list of reason the relationship wasn't working and they were petty and this was her response to the list. There definetly isn't any feeling of remorse or actual regret as she sings it, which makes me think the sarcastic route is the way she went. |

this is from her new cd "perfectly Clear" - its brand new. This song hit home for me, has become a deeply personal song...which a lot of her songs do. |

| The Chicks – Not Ready To Make Nice Lyrics

The song is just the Dixie Chicks way of venting their anger and frustration on how people responded to their comments about Bush. Nothing more nothing less. And in this country they have every right to do that, we all do. We are a free country and you can get up on your little soap box and say what’s on your mind. Like we are doing in this forum. And the people who disagree have the right to disagree. I think “kelshamrocks” is a bit naïve in thinking people don’t listen to celebrities, wither its right or wrong to allow a Celebes to influence your opinion is really nether here nor there, people do it all the time. Song writers use the avenue of song to push their ideas and views, that’s the whole point. But people also have the right to not buy the Chick’s CDs in protest of not lining up with their thinking. They don’t have the right to make death threats. That is seriously extreme and unnecessary. And makes those people no better then the terrorists that our troops are out fighting, against the Chick’s support.
I also feel you have to take Bush himself out of it because he never “retaliated” against the Chick’s; this is about Natalie’s statement, and the behavior of the disgruntled fans that followed. All of which was childish and petty. Sure Natalie has a microphone in front of her face and the stage to do her preaching, however she should recognize her fan base is more likely to lineup on the side of loyal patriotism and support the troops. So her comment wouldn’t go over well. In return the fans shouldn’t have reacted as they did. But both parties show a serious lack of maturity. But in the end the Chick’s put out a good song about their experience, and their fans bought it. |

I don’t know that I agree with this song being about the war, or any war in general. I can see it being about a pasted boyfriend but I wonder if it is more about a relationship with a parent. And she wants to reconcile cause she questions if she missed out on that relationship “..and I'm feeling like I missed out on everything..” but this is the “last call” on the chance at the relationship, even more the a last call it’s the final one, which means she has probably given this person several “last chances”.
There is mention of a division of sides, between the singer’s side and the person who she has this estranged relationship with and that people took sides, which made me question if it was family taking side. |
