Big Black – Seth Lyrics | 14 years ago |
According to the sleeve notes in the EP the rant at the start is "from the America First Committee telephone hotline". I read an interview somewhere where Albini says he recorded it directly off the phone. |

Yeah i'm 99% sure it is "Something angry in me doesn't like the mean in you". |
Big Black – Things To Do Today Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I know evidence makes more sense, specially if this is based on a real killing but i always heard it as "kill the dog, emphasis". Kind of prefer it too. |

The "deeper than a mm mm ??" bit is definitely "keep it in the family". Fits with what infotainment_lad said too. |
Smog – A Guiding Light Lyrics | 16 years ago |
My interpretation is this is about a conversation/argument that he didn't want to have, probably with a girlfriend, the sort of conversation where raw, painful honesty comes out and it takes the whole day. The hoped for guiding light is the insight into himself/the relationship, which doesn't arrive to his ultimate relief. After all, who really wants to see things in blinding white? Then the aftermath, regret and self doubt? "Trying to prove wrong all the statements i made" sounds like he regrets being so honest and the pain it caused and so starts to try to explain how what he said wasn't true. |
Smog – Lize Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love this song, all about the final collapse of a relationship thats been unsteady for a long time. "I used to be able To live off your lies" But not anymore. |
Smog – Your Wedding Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I agree with sais, its definitely a perfect love song, expressed ridiculously simply. |
Smog – Be Hit Lyrics | 16 years ago |
To me this sounds like one of those songs where he is singing as a character rather than it being a direct representation of what he feels/has experienced. Its about misogyny and how some men think that its not only ok to hit women but its actually what they want. "Every girl I've ever loved left me" Shows how his bitterness and hatred towards women came about. It sounds very much like the sort of the conversation which arises when groups of men start talking about women, especially when alcohol is involved, maybe its based on an overheard conversation in a pub. |
