one of my favorite songs they've put out despite the completely listenable discography. This song almost starts off as a love song to a past love or moment in time that he once loved. Its not just the lyrics, but the tone of the song where he feels so much regret about what has transpired to change him by so much. he feels like a completely different person with no chance of redemption or returning to what he used to have. Whether its drugs, the loss of innocence, or just the long road of mistakes that have changed him, he knows his days back on ellis drive are gone. He will no longer be the same man everyone once saw him as, and possibly the favorite time in his life. As the chorus comes, he recognizes that its all nostalgia, but perhaps he feels as though he isn't a good enough person to become what he once was. theres no redemption left in his heart or his soul and he is too far gone. his eyes are bloodshot, and he thinks that even if he had a chance to relive the best days of his life, he couldn't maintain the man he once was or the relationship he misses so deeply. he has failed his aspirations and dreams so deeply with all the time wasted fucking up. the second verse is absolutely the pinnacle of his failures. his knowledge of the devil shows that he has spent time in sin. he has been too messed up and has screwed around too much to see that all thetime he spent screwing around has changed him. changed him so much that his innocence, a past relationship, a person he had wished to be are all gone and that he has wasted a lot of things in pursuit of his happiness when it turns out years later that he had it the whole time but he was too blind to see it. |

It's like the singer found someone so special to them, so unique, that maybe if no one sees the value in it(Thrift store reference), he does, and he wants to keep it forever, he wants to keep her with him forever(sleep in you tonight). and he wants everyone to see how much he loves her(all my pictures). i think it's possible also that the girl was treated really badly, and she was hurt by a million guys before him, but he doesn't need to worry bout her getting hurt anymore, cuz she's with him and he'll treat her right ("don't care how you were worn Cos i got you on my back now And from my body you won't be torn") |

| it's a very sad song. i'm not sure the meaning, but to me, the white picket fence is kinda like hope, or dreams of growing up and being something. but as the person grows up, they turn sick and cold. so their world starts going crazy and insane like nothing is right anymore. the church burning is like loss of belief, beliefof anything like belief that theres something better or that everything will fix. and the person tries to fight it, cuz she's screaming and crying and reaching out, but in the end, there was nothing she could do....idk but thats kinda wat it maks me think. mayeb the person did something wrong and it screwed their life. | |

agreed. bout having something you depend on, someone that really cares, and then losing them. so u have to find your own way and become dependent again until you find another to care for you. "I'll never find my way back here from anywhere" i think that part means that the author feels that they won't find their way back to that same person, or the way that person cared for him. like everyone has their ways of caring for ppl they love, and he thinks he won't have that same thing again, but as the end of the song comes, he's on his way and figures he'll find something new, and he doesn't need to go back. |
