To each person a song has its own meaning. To me the lyrics are from someone who loves and is a dreamer. Always wanting to make something beautiful of what he has in a relationship. But even so, honest. Caring. And wants his lover to know that even though he is a romantic, he will move on. The passion is certainly there but is likely to fade. When suggesting his only friends are pirates he is showing how this person who he is has not allowed him to build even good friend relationships. He puts himself in this situation over and over again and it feels so right. He’s reckless but still has a huge heart. Never wants to hurt anyone. But as he is a dreamer he keeps setting himself up to break hearts, never knowing when he will leave. He does not conform to society’s typical fall in love, get married and have children and grow old together. Or perhaps, did he? And these relationships are as he escapes that. It is a beautiful and oh so true song. |
