| Bob Marley and the Wailers – Guava Jelly Lyrics

Bob was famous for sleeping with tons of woman. Sounds like his wife was upset about it and he's telling her there is nothing to be upset about. "I love you and you love me, now let's get it on!" I'm guessing the jelly is her natural lube. |

I found this: http://theblacklistpub.ning.com/profiles/blogs/divdiva-1 Charles H. Ramsey was a huge proponent of security surveillance and a 2X drop out. |

Vic says this one is about public cameras in NYC, and not about a lover. I guess he's lonely for his freedom and ready to do anything to get it back. Also, not sure what it means, but the backwards message sounds like "Joke for schoolboy, dead for dropout". Maybe a reference to the politician who put the cameras up? Not sure. |

In the slackers documentary, Vic says he got the cancer line from a phone conversation he overheard on the NY subway. Some dude with a broken heart talking to his girlfriend. Awesome. |

There is a certain cockiness to the song, which I love. He's saying he could easily write hit songs if he wanted to, and proves it with this one. Maybe someone was criticizing him for not making more hits and becoming a huge star, and this was his response. For him, it's art and not business. Of course, everyone is right in what they say. I just wanted to add that he's saying not everyone can make hits, but he has the talent if he wanted to. |

Sorry for a 3rd comment, but another hint in this song is the word Rock. Peter comes from the word rock and St. Peter is often considered the rock of the catholic church. This may be about St. Peter, or at least it's alluding to him. |

I didn't read all the lyrics, but I think he's talking about the book of the dead. He's realizing his mortality and he's willing to pray to any god, not just the christian god. But Christ is the quintessential god that actually cares about you and makes you feel like you are not alone. He's desperate to not be alone, as we truly are in life. It's really about the anguish you feel when you realize you are free and have to decide for yourself what is right and wrong. The existentialists wrote books about it. He's giving up his freedom for faith. |

I think it's about the duality of his personality. There is an evil part of him(the shadow). Although he likes to think he's good. He has learned that he can go into a relationship with the best intent, but in the end he won't love, but will destroy his lover. This song is about the pain of being so evil. |

I think there is something sinister in the end. Why does she think he would sit around and watch her go? She obviously tried to go back to the old boyfriend. Something happened, and he stopped it. I don't know if he killed anyone, but he did something. |

I have no idea, but I'm guessing when he says "Oh that you really meant to kill her" that she only kissed him to bother some other girl. Now he's in love, but she wants him to get lost. Maybe she's crying because she feels guilty? Maybe she accuses him of being in love, but she is the one who is crying, not him. He's thinking she is love, but won't admit it. |

I think it's about wanting to believe something that you know can't be. The "ignorance is bliss" line of thinking. He wants to believe in Jesus, but he knows that it is fantasy("He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone "). He wants to believe that he can have his friend's woman, but he knows it can never work out. He wishes he was ignorant. There is also a bit about people only mustering up faith when they really need it. Maybe if he was "drowning", he could go through with banging Suzanne. He sees himself in all the dead people in the river. Their faith brought them nothing, and they sit at the bottom of the river waiting for love to save them. Could also be some suicidal shit in there as well. Pretty depressing stuff. |

right on. It's just about being depressed. It seems you can't escape, but if you do something drastic and change, you can escape your depression. |

It's about being a drug addict and keeping a "low" lifestyle. A lifestyle associated with ppl of a lower class. Someone, probably a woman, wants him to straighten out and be upper class. He admits his true self is looked down on (hated identity). He's tried(he bought the cadi), but in this song he realizes that he has to be himself, a low class drug addict. His galaxie is the real-life symbol that lets him put into words how he feels. There is a lot of truth to it, but also a lot of denial. It sad is some ways. |

Thinking about it more... the narrator is the son of the crazy guy. He refers to him as daddy throughout the song. I don't think he kills his family, but either his wife or his mother. The narrator can't be dead. |

Yes, I think everyone is right about the Ann Rynd stuff. But more then that I think it's about Ben himself, and how he created the the band. The completed sky scraper represents the success of the band. And the ppl he pushed, that have no philosophy, were the other band members. |

I think house and porch are symbols in eddie vedders lyrics. As someone else mentioned, they are used many times. Home seems to be what you are made into by your environment, porch is realizing what happened and seeing what is possible. Leaving the porch is realizing yourself. |

I listened to the album as a kid and am rediscovering as an adult. I can't believe I didn't get this song was about god until I came here!! what a dope. great song, not pompous. he just needs to get it off of his chest. I love the way this one builds up to the chorus. they really create a lot of anticipation on the way. |

The reason he walks through the picket line unhindered is because he has gone crazy and everyone can tell. I never realized it until just now. I always thought he kills his family at the end, or commits suicide. But now that I think about it, only killing his family makes sense. My favourite is the second verse. The fact that he has been emasculated and will not screw his secretary is a very nice reflection of modern society. Sting is nuts because he is showing how this homicidal maniac is actually a hero and becoming free! lol. Great song. Right up there with Every breath you take, which is also very creepy. |
