um i think the song's larger than celeb/rockstar life, it applies to the new generation. imo, MGMT is exactly what music needed. an offbeat, free-spirted band that grasped the overwhemingly indie youth. w/out being lame, it's addressed to all of us. yeah, live fast, die young, etc. but what i love is the end, when even that path ends ugly (no love, divorce, vomit), but they'd prefer that life. what's cool is the entendre of "fated to pretend" - pretend, as in live in your own, pretend world? or pretend, as in pretend your own existance to fulfill societal expecations? it's a dark song. oh and it's really cool live. it's not as electro-heavy, so it sounds a lot different and apparently the band is called out on that, but lots of mod bands sound awful live and it's def not the case, imo: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=TkRI1oeca50 |

aha, touche chloroplasticism. i had no idea what i'd say here, tbh. immediately reactions were: this is very beatles-ish, they say lebanese! i anticipate challenges toward my beatles claim, but w/e. progressive changes are amaaazing. not very syd barrett? aha i love the silliness of it, and consistany w/ "I neeeed to go to the store" - it strings the chaotic, lyrical mess together. of course it's the chaotic, lyrical mess that we all love. i can't even recognize all the instruments, it's so pretty. |

i looove that somebody caught the longfellow ref :) oh, and cgforthinbras: the lyrics are right above, duh! i really just unjustly adore this song, and i totally get it's lyrically unimpressive (which i totally disagree w/) or w/e, but sometimes simpliciity is nice, esp for this style of music in which the hottt heavy bass overwhelmes any argument against the song. and yeah, the outback commercial blows. i will kill you cgfortinbras. |
