This is a great song. I usually dislike rap and hip-hop, but I'm quite taken aback by this song. Gorilla Zoe nails it on the head here. I especially like the line "Following the wise
But they're walking in pampers". |

Right, but when there is a designated meaning for the song, it can't be interpreted any other way. Any other way would be incorrect. You were saying how any song is what the listener makes of it, which is not the case for H. |

Not when they have designated a meaning for it already. To an extent Tool is what you make it, but when there are obvious cited reasons for what a song means, then it's not "what you make of it". |

You guys are way over-analyzing this. H. is the middle initial of his son. It's been state that that is what this is named for. |

I think that this might have been the song that made me realize you can feel emotion from a song. Watching Happy Gilmore when I was about 8 I heard it and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Absolutely beautiful song. |

Emma is the middle name of his High school girlfriend he never got over. See the Skinny Love lyrics comment I left for the full story. Reliable source. |

For all wondering. I had a teacher in High School that is one of Justin Vernon's good friends. I recently asked him "what do these songs mean and what is the message that he is trying to convey" and he replied with Emma is the middle name of his High School girlfriend that he has never gotten over all this time. And the other songs are just about some "shit" he's had to deal with over time. Hope this clarifies things a bit. |
